Rebel Wilson's Isn't It Romantic getting horror-themed spinoff film Isn't It Scary

It seems like the era of parodies and satires poking fun at the horror genre and its many tropes is back in style! Rebel Wilson's meta 2019 romantic comedy film Isn't It Romantic is reportedly getting a follow-up film titled Isn't It Scary, which will riff on tropes regularly found in the horror genre, per Deadline.

Little is known about the film, but it comes on the heels of a recent announcement that the popular spoof franchise Scary Movie will also receive the reboot treatment soon. Scream, another meta franchise that frequently breaks the fourth wall and intentionally plays with horror tropes, will get a seventh film next year, with star Neve Campbell set to return.

According to Deadline, Isn't It Scary doesn't have any talent attached yet, outside of writer April Prosser, who has been tapped to pen the script. Previously, Prossner wrote the Lili Reinhart-led rom-com Look Both Ways for Netflix.

Todd Garner of Broken Road Productions will produce alongside Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo for Little Engine Entertainment.

The 2019 film starring Wilson, Liam Hemsworth, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Adam DeVine followed Wilson's character Natalie, an architect with a distaste for romance, who hits her head and wakes up in a sugary sweet and overly sentimental world that adheres strictly to the "rules" of a romantic comedy. It made over $48 million at the worldwide box office and received mostly positive reviews from critics.
