Ryan Coogler's secret supernatural thriller adds Delroy Lindo
By TJ Dietsch
Ryan Coogler (Creed, Black Panther) just might be bringing his talents to horror and Delroy Lindo is coming with him. The actor will be working alongside regular Coogler collaborator Michael B. Jordan and Jack O'Connell (Unbroken, Ferrari) on the unnamed film. Rumor has it that Lindo might be a musician who encounters twins played by Jordan who find themselves in opposition of O'Connell.
For now, the details of the film are being kept tightly under wraps. However, THR's sources indicate that the story will have a horror bent that it might revolve around vampires and "Southern supernatural traditions" set in the South of the late 19th or early 20th century.
Throughout his 50 year career, Lindo has dabbled in just about every genre and played a variety of parts. He's a regular in Spike Lee's projects, having worked on Crooklyn, Malcolm X and, most recently, Da 5 Bloods, but he's also been in Get Shorty, Gone In 60 Seconds and LX 2048. After spending the past few years on shows like The Good Fight and Unprisoned, this will put him back on the big screen.
This film will mark Coogler's first foray into horror, but he's certainly shown a capacity for aspects of the genre in Fruitvale Station, Creed and the two Black Panther films. Wakanda Forever especially dealt with death and loss while still presenting impressive visuals. And, given the fact that the flick will be released in IMAX, it's safe to assume he'll be working some of that same magic for an under-represented era in film.
Though the title of the film has yet to be revealed, it is expected to start filming in New Orleans this spring with an eye towards a March 7, 2025 release date.
