It's finally October, and most of us are already knee-deep in horror movie marathons. Thankfully, there are plenty of options available on television and streaming, too, but what if you really want to relax and binge-watch several old, classic horror movies?

The movies that created what the horror genre is today. Modern horror is also fantastic, but something about the Halloween season makes me want to revisit the films that turned me into the fan I am today.

With so many different streaming services available now, it can be hard to keep up with what is streaming and where, especially this time of year when all the services are adding their own unique offerings to flesh out their horror catalogs. Luckily, you can use this helpful guide to find out where to easily stream classics like Halloween, Scream, Hellraiser, Poltergeist, The Exorcist, and more!

**Note that some classics, like Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th, aren't available here because they're not readily available to stream right now. But those films can still be rented or purchased digitally or physically.

Halloween (1978) (Shudder)

Revisit the night he came home with one of the most iconic slasher movies of all time. John Carpenter's Halloween is currently available to stream on Shudder and will likely remain there for most of October. But what better way to start off this month than by putting Halloween on and paying our dear old friends Michael Myers and Laurie Strode a visit? If you've never seen the 1978 film, then this is an absolute must-watch.

Rosemary's Baby (Prime Video, Paramount+)

With Apartment 7A, the new prequel film starring Julia Garner now available to watch, now is as good a time as any to go back to the original. Based on the book by Ira Levin, Rosemary's Baby centers on Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse after they move into the mysterious and imposing old Bramford building in New York. Rosemary befriends an elderly couple living nearby, and when she becomes pregnant, Rosemary begins suspecting that something is deeply wrong with her offspring.

Poltergeist (AMC+)

A personal favorite of mine and a movie that I feel sometimes doesn't get as much credit as it deserves despite being undeniably influential. After checking out the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre, don't forget to give this other Tobe Hooper movie a watch (or rewatch). See what happens when Carol Anne starts talking to the white noise on her TV screen one night and how her family scrambles to save her when the entities living in their home take her into another realm.

The Shining (AMC+, Max)

Here's Johnny! Now's the time to watch The Shining and see Jack Nicholson's spectacular unraveling as Jack Torrance. Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, The Shining is yet another horror masterpiece that's well worth rewatching annually. And sadly, Shelley Duvall passed away earlier this year. The Shining wouldn't be what it is without her heart-wrenching performance as Wendy Torrance, so watch it in her honor. And while you're already on Max, why not give Mike Flanagan's brilliant follow-up film Doctor Sleep a chance?

The Exorcist (AMC+, Max)

Max is apparently the place to be this Halloween season as the streamer has many older and modern classic horror films available right now, including The Exorcist, a film once considered to be the scariest movie of all time. And still thought to be by many. Linda Blair delivers a performance for the ages as young Reagan who becomes possessed by a horrific demon.

Alien (Hulu)

Alien: Romulus will be available on PVOD starting on October 15, so make sure to rewatch the classic Ridley Scott film from 1979. You'll appreciate Alien: Romulus a lot more if Alien is fresh in your mind since it's technically a direct sequel to that film. Even if you'll be watching Alien: Romulus for the first time this month, it's still a good idea to go back to the first movie!

Scream (Max)

Scream 7 might be more than a year away, but thankfully, you can still watch Ghostface's original reign of terror and the introduction of Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley in the 1996 slasher. The first four Scream films are on Max right now. You'll have to pivot to Paramount+ to catch up with Scream 5 and Scream 6.
