The time for midnight margaritas is inching closer as we receive more news on the upcoming Practical Magic sequel that will see the return of Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as witchy sisters Sally and Gillian Owens.

Casting for the rest of the cast is underway, with The Hollywood Reporter sharing that Joey King is circling a role as Kidman's on-screen daughter. This wouldn't be the first time King portrayed Kidman's daughter as the pair worked together on the Netflix film A Family Affair.

King rose to prominence with her starring role in the Netflix trilogy The Kissing Booth, also starring Jacob Elordi (Euphoria). Since then she has gone on to star in movies like Uglies and Bullet Train, plus television shows like We Were the Lucky Ones and Hamster & Gretel. She has also been in a number of horror projects, including Creepshow, Slender Man, Wish Upon, and The Conjuring.

Per the outlet, King's role in the movie sounds like a catalyst for the plot as she "discovers the dark family secrets and her own dark powers."

Apart from King and the return of the lead actresses, little else is known about the Practical Magic sequel and what fans should expect. We do know that Susanne Bier—who previously worked with Bullock on Bird Box and Kidman on The Perfect Couple—will direct the film, which is currently set to release on September 18, 2026. The script was written by co-writers Akiva Goldman and Georgia Pritchett. Production on the movie is expected to begin later this summer in London.

Earlier this month, at Cannes, Kidman provided a brief update on the movie, adding that she and Bullock had enjoyed their time working with Bier previously and the chance to work together on something new was an exciting prospect for them both. She says the new movie is "fun and witchy," and that's all we need!

The original 1998 film was based on Alice Hoffman's novel and followed sisters who discover they have descended from a long line of witches. As adults, they use their magic to conquer an evil spirit inhabiting Gillian's abusive boyfriend.

Despite the film receiving mixed reviews from critics upon release, it has since developed a large and loyal fanbase with many people praising the feminist themes and the compelling performances from Bullock and Kidman. Practical Magic has become a fall staple movie that millions enjoy rewatching every year when the leaves begin to fall. It's the epitome of a cozy Halloween watch.
