The upcoming seventh film in the Scream franchise promises to be one for the books with several key figures from the franchise’s past set to return to the franchise. In fact, it seems like every week there is yet another unexpected casting announcement connected to the Spyglass and Paramount Pictures film.

Just last week, news broke that franchise vets Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley had both joined the cast in undisclosed roles. Both actors played iterations of Ghostface killers in the franchise with Lillard playing Stu Macher, one of the two Ghostface killers in the original Scream film way back in 1996, and Foley playing Roman Bridger, Sidney’s half-brother and the Ghostface killer in Scream 3.

Both characters seemingly met their makers in their respective films with Stu presumed dead after being stabbed multiple times and having a TV dropped on his head and Roman seemingly killed after taking a bullet to the head. We’re not quite sure how these two characters could have survived their fates, but this is the Scream franchise so who knows whether the writers might have found a way to bring the pair back in the present day or if they’ll simply be returning as ghosts of Sidney’s past.

Whatever the plan might be, it seems they won’t be the only former Ghostface killers returning for Scream 7 as it seems Stu’s former cohort will also be joining the killer lineup being assembled.

Skeet Ulrich reportedly joins cast of Scream 7

Although not yet confirmed, trusted insider Daniel Richtman is reporting that Skeet Ulrich has joined the cast of Scream 7 and will join the ever-growing cast of the film. At this time, Ulrich’s role has not been confirmed but one has to assume that Ulrich will be reprising his role as Billy Loomis.

As fans will recall, Billy was the original mastermind behind the Ghostface killings as the main antagonist in the original Scream film. The horror film fanatic, enlisted his friend Stu to help him in orchestrating the killing spree in Woodsboro that ultimately paved the way for the many copycat killers who would don the Ghostface mask in the years that followed via the franchise sequels.

25 years after originating his role, Ulrich returned to the franchise in its 2022 reboot and Scream VI the following year. In the films, we learn that Billy had fathered an illegitimate daughter after an affair with Christina Carpenter and Ulrich returned to the franchise appearing in a series of hallucinations seen by his daughter, Samantha, who is struggling with the truth about her father’s identity as she faces a killing spree much like the one her father went on over two decades prior.

It seems likely that Ulrich will once again be playing Billy in Scream 7 and we have to imagine his return will again be connected to visions of the past or hallucinations. However, with other past killers also tapped to return, we have to wonder what exactly the creative team might be cooking up as we know the story will not involve Billy’s daughter Samantha following the departure of Melissa Barrera.

With Samantha not involved in the new film, one has to wonder what the writers have planned for bringing Billy back and his return is definitely a bit surprising. We’ve already gotten a few cameos and sure those were fun, but we have to wonder what is going to bring Billy back into the fold now that Samantha is not part of the narrative and what the casting of all these former Ghostface killers is going to mean for the narrative of the film.
