Raúl Castillo, star of Smile 2, is the latest talent to join the cast of 20th Century Studios' eagerly awaited remake of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. With his exciting addition, Castillo will be bringing his unique flair and depth to the project, and we can't wait to see him in action. He will reportedly have a supporting role in the movie. We shared more about who he will be portraying down below.
This new cast announcement comes just a little over a month later after the announcement that Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane, Black Christmas) was in discussions to join the cast. It appears that Winstead is now officially a part of the project. She and Castillo join Longlegs' Maika Monroe, who was the first to be cast in this remake.
Michelle Garza Cervera will direct from a screenplay written by Micah Bloomberg. Additionally, Ted Field will produce through his Radar Pictures, with Michael Schaefer and Mike Larocca producing for Department M.
The 1992 original film is a psychological thriller that centers on Mrs. Mott, a troubled woman whose life falls apart when her obstetrician husband commits suicide after being accused of sexual misconduct by his patients. After discovering the identity of one of her husband's accusers, she decides to seek revenge against the accuser and her family. How? By assuming a false identity and infiltrating the family as their nanny in an attempt to destroy their lives from the inside.
Monroe stars in the leading role as Mrs. Mott, while Winstead will portray the accuser, Claire Bartel. Castillo will play the role of Matt McCoy, an architect and Claire's husband.
Besides his role as Darius Bravo in Smile 2, Castillo is known for starring in other movies such as Night Teeth and Mother/Android. He also had roles in the TV shows Looking, Atypical, Seven Seconds, Vida and Class of '09. We'll see him next in the upcoming crime drama miniseries Task, which is expected to come out sometime in 2025.
