This year has had no shortage of horror movies, with several acclaimed films releasing within the first few months, such as Companion, Heart Eyes, Presence, and The Monkey. But 2025 is just getting started.

More than a dozen exciting horror films are still to come this year, starting with the springtime, where we'll see the debut of at least seven new movies, several of which have already earned significant critical praise from festival premieres.

Keep track of what's coming out this season with our handy guide. All of the movies listed below will be released theatrically unless otherwise noted.

Drop (April 11)

One of the first significant horror releases of the spring season (apart from The Woman in the Yard, which came out this week!) is the latest movie from Happy Death Day and Freaky director Christopher Landon.

The White Lotus star Meghann Fahy stars as a widowed mother seeking to return to the dating world. Easier said than done. Violet thinks she's off to a strong start when she meets a cute guy, but then someone starts terrorizing her through anonymous drops to her phone, threatening to kill her son if she doesn't murder her date.

Sinners (April 18)

Black Panther and Creed collaborators Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler reunite for this period horror movie set in the Jim Crow-era South. Jordan plays twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who have returned to their hometown for a fresh start, only to discover that a great evil has replaced the life they once knew.

If you've seen any of this movie's promotional material, then you already know the twins and their friends will be facing off against a vampire infestation. Jack O'Connell, Hailee Steinfeld, Omar Benson Miller, and Delroy Lindo also star.

The Ugly Stepsister

The Ugly Stepsister (April 18)

If you loved The Substance, you should not miss out on this upcoming Norwegian body horror movie. A twisted retelling of Cinderella, The Ugly Stepsister centers on a young woman named Elvira who competes with her stepsisters for the prince's attention.

Marking the directorial debut of Emilie Blichfeldt, The Ugly Stepsister has been receiving rave reviews since its Sundance debut earlier this year, which reportedly made one audience member vomit. This is one film that does not hold back in the gross-out department, featuring scenes where characters eat tapeworms, sew in their eyelashes, and more.

Clown in a Cornfield (May 9)

Clown in a Cornfield could start a fun new teen slasher franchise, as the movie is based on the first book in Adam Cesare's series. After her mother dies, Quinn (Katie Douglas) and her father (Aaron Abrams) pack up and move to a small midwestern town to get a fresh start.

Soon, however, they learn that the community is struggling economically after the local factory was shut down due to a fire, leading to a sinister presence seeking revenge. The nice thing about this movie and The Ugly Stepsister is that they were acquired by Shudder and RLJE Films, meaning they'll be available to stream on the premier horror app later this year.

Final Destination: Bloodlines (May 20)

The hype for the next Final Destination movie is real. It has been almost 15 years since the fifth film was released, and people are keen for the next entry in this bloody entertaining franchise. Earlier this week, Warner Bros. shared the film's official trailer, which quickly went on to rack up more than 178 million global views, becoming the second highest-viewed horror movie trailer of all time.

The trailer shows off exactly what we would expect from a Final Destination movie, featuring a new formerly innocuous activity turned sinister (be careful the next time you order a drink with ice at a bar!). There are also plenty of close-ups of everyday items spilling, falling, and breaking; all the series hallmarks where you never know which little mishap will lead to something deadly.

Fear Street: Prom Queen (Netflix, May 23)

After years of waiting for the next installment in the Fear Street Universe, Netflix is finally set to deliver. Unlike the 2021 trilogy, the fourth Fear Street movie is based on one specific novel from R.L. Stine's vast canon of YA horror stories, specifically the 15th book in the series, The Prom Queen.

We return to Shadyside High in 1988 during the height of prom season. Several teenage girls are vying for the crown when a masked killer starts slaughtering them one by one.

Bring Her Back (May 29)

Easily one of my most anticipated movies this spring is also one we don't know much about yet, but it's the next A24 horror film from Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou, and that's all I need to know.

A24 released a cryptic teaser for the movie earlier this year, giving us our first peek at Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) in the lead role. The synopsis is short and sweet: "A brother and sister witness a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother."
