A24 is gearing up to release a new horror film this year. The indie powerhouse will be releasing the horror drama Opus, and it's definitely a movie we'll be catching in theaters! To get people pumped up for its release, a new first-look image from the film was dropped. We shared it below via the Film Updates X account:

Last year, A24 released five horror movies. They were I Saw the TV Glow, MaXXXine, Heretic, The Front Room and Y2K. However, if we're being honest, only three of those five movies were actually enjoyable to watch: MaXXXine, I Saw the TV Glow and Heretic.

This year, the only horror content that has been confirmed to be released by the indie production company so far is Opus and Death of a Unicorn. However, I highly doubt these will be the only two horror projects A24 releases in 2025. We'll probably hear of several others in the near future.

Opus comes from Mark Anthony Green, who wrote the script as well as directed and produced the film. Having previously directed only one short film in the past, Green made his feature directorial debut with this movie.

Opus has a unique plot that will draw you in immediately. It centers around a young writer named Ariel Ecton, who receives an invitation to a secluded compound owned by a legendary pop star who vanished without a trace 30 years ago. While there, she becomes surrounded by the star's devoted followers and drunken journalists, and soon, she finds herself entangled in his dark and twisted scheme.

Ayo Edebiri, who is widely recognized for her role as Sydney Adamu in The Bear, stars in the leading role of Ariel Ecton in Opus. This will be her first horror project, mainly having played characters in comedy films and series. Edebiri is an incredibly talented actress, so I have high hopes that she'll knock this new role out of the park.

Many other gifted actors, such as Amber Midthunder, Juliette Lewis, John Malkovich, Murray Bartlett, Stephanie Suganami, Young Mazino, Tatanka Means, Melissa Chambers, Aimee McGuire, and Chris Highlands join Edebiri in the cast.

Opus is scheduled to premiere in the Midnight section at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 27, 2025. The horror flick will then finally be released in U.S. theaters on March 14, 2025. As we near the theatrical release date, you can expect tickets to go on sale. This isn't a movie you want to miss!
