I've been keeping tabs on all of the horror movies still to come in 2025 and I have to say, this year is truly stacked. We're already off to a strong start with the positive reception to movies like Heart Eyes, Companion, and The Monkey, but we're really only at the beginning of what is a fully packed slate of original ideas, sequels, and returns to classic and beloved franchises.
You might miss out on a horror movie or two here and there, but the following list highlights 10 movies that are bound to be huge at the box office and become cultural touchstones for the year of 2025. Get ready for more Final Destination, M3GAN, the conclusion to main story of The Conjuring, and so much more.
M3GAN 2.0
- In theaters, June 26
The M3GAN universe is officially taking off with this follow-up to the successful 2022 film. The killer doll returns in an even more ambitious sequel that will see the technologically advanced A.I. toy return in a new capacity. Taking place two years after the first movie, M3GAN 2.0 plot details are being kept under wraps, but the official teaser shares that M3GAN's tech has been stolen by a defense contractor intending to use it for a military-grade weapon, forcing Gemma to get back into her workshop and make a new M3GAN to protect against this new threat.
Final Destination: Bloodlines
- In theaters, May 16
It has been way too long since we've been blessed with a new Final Destination movie (well over a decade, to be exact) but the wait is almost over! The upcoming Final Destination film Bloodlines will follow a college student with recurring nightmares about her loved ones dying in gruesome ways. We can expect many of the familiar Final Destination trademarks here along with references and callbacks to previous films, I'm sure. The late Tony Todd also reprises his role as William Bludworth.
The Black Phone 2
- In theaters, October 17
Scott Derrickson is back with the highly-anticipated sequel to his excellent 2021 film based on Joe Hill's short story of the same name. Where The Black Phone 2 was sort of a middle school coming-of-age horror story, Derrickson describes the sequel as using a similar approach, except about high school this time as the main kids, siblings Finney and Gwen, are obviously significantly older this time around. Ethan Hawke is also back as the villainous Grabber.
Frankenstein
- On Netflix, November 2025
Netflix secured the rights to Guillermo del Toro's take on Mary Shelley's classic 1818 novel. A gothic sci-fi horror film, Frankenstein recounts the story of Victor Frankenstein and his monster, with Oscar Issac playing the titular role and Jacob Elordi cast as his monster.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
- In theaters, July 18
Note that the title isn't official yet as Sony hasn't said what this new sequel will be named. But many of us are very excited for this return to the 1990s slasher franchise, especially because some of the original stars, like Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, are returning to reprise their original roles. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) directed and co-wrote the film, which serves as a direct sequel to the 1998 film I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
Five Nights at Freddy's 2
- In theaters, Dec. 5
The live-action Five Nights at Freddy's film received mixed reactions from critics and fans but sitll made bank at the box office, ensuring a sequel was all but assured. The second movie will see the actors from the first return to reprise their roles as characters from the video game like William Afton and Mike Schmidt. The sequel will reportedly be based on the events of the second Five Nights at Freddy's game.
28 Years Later
- In theaters, June 20
A follow-up to the beloved 2002 viral thriller 28 Days Later, this upcoming movie is easily one of the most anticipated out of all horror movies this year, with its chilling trailer raking in more than 22 million views and leading to Sony to re-release the original movie which hadn't been available on digital before that. Original director and writer Danny Boyle and Alex Garland returned for this movie, which will be the start of a new trilogy.
The Conjuring: Last Rites
- In theaters, September 5
Are you prepared to say goodbye to Ed and Lorraine Warren on-screen? Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson have reprise their roles as the married demonologists one final time for the end of The Conjuring. Of course, it might not actually be the last film in the franchise (they said the same thing about Insidious and now a new one is in the works), but go into expecting it to be the final chapter.
Keeper
- In theaters, October 3
We've already been blessed with two new movies from Osgood Perkins between last year's indie breakout Longlegs and this year's comedy-horror movie The Monkey, but Perkins isn't done yet. This fall, his next movie, Keeper starring Tatiana Maslany will be released in theaters. A short teaser played in place of a typical post-credits scene for The Monkey and it looks like it's going to be a disturbing film similar to his previous works.

Fear Street: Prom Queen
- On Netflix, May 23
Netflix's 2021 Fear Street event is one of my favorite things the streamer has ever done. Three weeks, a new horror movie each weekend, right in the midst of summer. It was fantastic. And now we're finally getting another addition to the Fear Street franchise based on R.L. Stine's novels. The latest movie is based on The Prom Queen and takes us back to Shadyside High where candidates for the crown are being picked off one by one by a masked killer.
