The Boulet Brothers' Dragula episode 4: The Uglies ride the Ghost Train
By Carla Davis
At the beginning of episode four, all of the Dragula participants were still abuzz about “Chicken Gate,” last week’s episode in which Desiree Dix had a pre-elimination melt-down and flung the chicken they were using as a prop at Yuri. Of course, Desiree was eliminated, and Yuri returned triumphantly to the laboratory with a fresh (and positive) perspective.
They were informed by the Boulets that their next challenge would be to create ghostly looks based on the theme of Ghost Train. They could choose to be a train employee or a passenger, and would be broken up into groups of three. The trios would have to lip sync to the Boulet Brothers’ song, appropriately titled The Ghost Train.
Just to add legitimacy to the floor show, all of them would be performing at a haunted train yard. Naturally, most of the competitors were not super-excited about having to perform as part of a group, but eventually they divided themselves up and began to plan their performances.
As they prepared their costumes, we got a little peek at a few of them. Asia Consent described her look as a coal shoveler, Aurora put together a glam debutante look, complete with bloodied jewelry, and Grey Matter was a dirty, dusty cowboy.
Yuri was in a great mood, unlike his broody mood from the last episode. Apparently, winning the elimination challenge gave him a fresh new outlook on the competition. On the flip side, Auntie Heroine was rather bit**y, and critical of several of the other competitors.
Auntie thinks Majesty may just be a narcissist, because they always make everything about themself (which is actually true). Because of this, Auntie doesn’t trust Majesty.
Then it was time for the floor show, and the Boulet Brothers introduced this week’s judges, who were Justin Simien (writer/director for Bad Hair and director for Haunted Mansion) and Landon Cider, who was the winner of Dragula’s third season.
After the trios performed, Drac and Swan dished about their impressions. They thought Jaharia, Pi and Auntie’s group performance was very good, but Majesty, Yuri and Grey Matter just weren’t cohesive enough. Yuri’s look was great, and Aurora’s was great (she also took their comments from the last challenge to heart).
In their opinion, Asia’s look was good, but not really on topic, and her lip sync was the best of them all. Vivvi, on the other hand was a visually confusing “hot mess.”
Ultimately, Majesty, Jaharia and Asia were safe. Auntie’s comments were mostly positive, as were Yuri’s and Aurora’s. Pi didn’t necessarily score high, but the Boulets liked their look, which they described as “a sex worker in the 80s.”
Aurora’s very glamorous look was chosen as the best. This was a great morale booster for Aurora, since she had to compete in the shark elimination challenge prior.
Which Dragula competitors had to face off in the elimination challenge?
Vivvi the Force and Grey Matter had the lowest marks, and they had to endure a rather “shocking” elimination challenge. They were each forced to keep their hands on the metal railing around a tesla coil. This caused multiple electric shocks, and whichever of the two who could hold on the longest would win.
Grey Matter was very quiet and very much his head while in the cauldron, but insisted he was going to win.
Who was eliminated? That’s a very good question, as we were only treated to video of the tesla railing with a skeleton holding on. We did not get the traditional kill scene, where the loser is slaughtered in a spectacular fashion. My guess is that both will be returning in the next episode; the Boulets have done that before, so it would make sense.
