The Housemaid starring Sydney Sweeney set for December 2025 release

We know what we'll be watching on Christmas Day 2025. The upcoming thriller flick The Housemaid, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried! Lionsgate just announced its official theatrical release date, which is set for Dec. 25, 2025. Other movies slated to hit theaters that month are Five Nights at Freddy's 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash.

The Housemaid is a film adaptation of the New York Times bestselling thriller novel of the same name by Freida McFadden. Paul Feig, who is best known for being behind movies such as Ghostbusters (2016) and A Simple Favor, will direct the project. Archive 81's Rebecca Sonnenshine will write the script.

The film centers on Millie, a young woman seeking a new beginning after a string of misfortunes. She finally sees hope when she secures a job as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, Nina and Andrew. But as she settles into her new position, Millie soon uncovers the dark secrets and disturbing dynamics beneath the surface of the seemingly perfect family.

Sweeney stars as the main character, Millie. She's known for her role as Cassie in the HBO teen series Euphoria. You might've also watched her in movies such as Anyone but You, Madame Web and Immaculate. Seyfried will play Nina in the thriller movie. You might remember her best from her role as Karen in Mean Girls. Some of her other roles were in the films Jennifer's Body, Mamma Mia! and Things Heard & Seen. She also starred in the leading role of Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout.

Brandon Sklenar (It Ends with Us, 1923) will portray Nina's husband, Andrew, in the film. Michele Morrone (Subservience, 365 Days) is also in the cast and will be playing the role of Enzo. Additionally, Feig, Todd Lieberman, Carly Kleinbart Elter, and Laura Fischer are producing the movie. Sweeney, Seyfried, McFadden, and Alex Young will executive produce.
