Are you ready to see the return of the killer AI doll M3GAN? Well, she's slated to make her comeback this summer in the highly anticipated M3GAN 2.0, which is set to be released by Universal Pictures on June 27, 2025. And guess what? The film production and distribution company just dropped the exciting first teaser for the sci-fi horror flick. You can check it out below!
The first teaser trailer for M3GAN 2.0 was released on Feb. 2 during the 2025 Grammys, and it immediately got fans talking. In the short 47-second teaser, M3GAN is shown dancing her heart out to Chappell Roan's sleeper hit "Femininomenon." If you recall from the first film, M3GAN (2022), the murderous AI doll had a random dance sequence before brutally murdering a man in cold blood.
Could this be a hint that M3GAN isn't quite done with her dancing shenanigans and will be bringing even more unsettling yet oddly mesmerizing moves to M3GAN 2.0? We hope so because her random dance number in the first movie was one of the most iconic moments of the film. What we do know is that M3GAN will be joined by a new robot named Amelia in the sequel. Along with releasing the new teaser trailer, Universal shared the official synopsis for the upcoming film as well.
"Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.
Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.
With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match."
Returning from the first movie in the sequel are Allison Williams as Gemma, Violet McGraw as Cady, Amie Donald as M3GAN, Jenna Davis as the voice of M3GAN, Brian Jordan Alvarez as Cole, and Jen Van Epps as Tess. In addition, Ivanna Sakhno joins the sequel's cast as the voice of Amelia. Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and Jemaine Clement are also new cast members.
Gerard Johnstone, who directed the first film, returned to direct the sequel. Additionally, Akela Cooper, who wrote the script for M3GAN and created the movie's characters, returned to pen the script. Williams, Jason Blum, and James Wan are signed on as producers.
The official trailer will likely be released once we get closer to M3GAN 2.0's release date. Once it drops, we'll make sure to come back and share it right away. But for now, this is all we know about the long-awaited sequel.
