The anticipation is over! The 2025 Golden Globe nominations are officially in, and they are nothing short of spectacular. Given that horror is not represented when it comes to the Golden Globe Awards, we were happy to still see some horror movies and shows receive nominations. They were placed under different categories other than horror to make the list.

For example, The Substance starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley was nominated for five Golden Globe Awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. The other nominations are for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy (Demi Moore), Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture (Margaret Qualley), Best Director - Motion Picture (Coralie Fargeat), and Best Screenplay - Motion Picture (Coralie Fargeat).

The Substance centers around Elisabeth Sparkle, a fading movie star whose life is turned upside down when she's fired from her long-running aerobics TV show on her 50th birthday. In the midst of her despair, she discovers a mysterious new drug that promises to transform her into a younger, more beautiful version of herself. But there are rules she has to follow in order for the drug to work the way it should. If not, there will be severe consequences, something Elisabeth soon encounters.

Another horror movie earning a Golden Globe nomination this year is the sci-fi horror film Alien: Romulus. This movie managed to be nominated for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, a category that was created only a year ago. According to the official Golden Globe website, this award "includes nominees from the year’s most acclaimed, highest-earning and/or most viewed films that have garnered extensive global audience support and attained cinematic excellence."

Alien: Romulus qualified for this nomination because it crossed over $100 million at the domestic box office and had a total of $350.9 million worldwide. When a group of young space colonists find and begin scavenging a deserted space station, they soon find themselves fighting for survival when they encounter dangerous alien creatures.

The horror-comedy, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, was also nominated in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category, having grossed $451.1 million worldwide and over $250 million in the U.S. alone.

Here are three other 2025 Golden Globe nominations related to horror:

  • Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy: Amy Adams (Nightbitch)
  • Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy: Hugh Grant (Heretic)
  • Best Television Series - Drama: (Squid Game - Netflix)

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards will air live on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. PT/8:00 p.m. ET on CBS and stream on Paramount+ in the United States.
