As you may have read recently, the Wayans Brothers’ are bringing us another Scary Movie film. Now comes the great news that the prior films’ stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall are returning to their roles of Cindy and Brenda.
Hall and Faris said: “We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon—three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).”
Scary Movie was the first major film role for Anna Faris, and she appeared in all but one of the sequels. She also appeared in the horror movie May, along with a vast number of comedies such as The House Bunny and The Hot Chick, and the popular series Mom.
The first film in the Scary Movie franchise was released in July of 2000, and delighted fans of horror movies. It managed to parody two of the most popular horror movies of the late 90s, I Know What You Did Last Summer (which just received another sequel) and Scream (Scream 7 is currently in the works). There were also nods to horror films and series such as Halloween, Friday the 13th, The Shining, The Blair Witch Project and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
In Scary Movie, a group of teen friends accidently hit a man while driving, then dump his body and swear one another to secrecy. A year later, a killer wearing the iconic Ghostface mask from Scream begins to stalk the group.
Scary Movie starred Faris, Hall, Jon Abrahams, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Shannon Elizabeth, Lochlyn Munro, Dave Sheridan, Cheri Oteri and Carmen Electra.

The film was a huge hit, opening in the number one spot at the box office and grossing $42,346,669 in its opening weekend. Of course, a sequel was immediately green lit, and Scary Movie 2 opened a year later. This time around, films such as The Haunting, The Exorcist, The Rocky Horror Picutre Show and Poltergeist were parodied.
Much of the original cast returned (even though the characters died in the first film), and stars such as Tori Spelling, Tim Curry and Chris Elliot joined them. While Scary Movie 2 was not as massive a hit as the first film, it still did quite well at the box office, and three more sequels followed in 2003, 2006 and 2013.
Principal photography on Scary Movie 6 is expected to begin in October, and the Wayans brothers will be working together for the first time in 18 years. It is hoped that the film will have its theatrical release via Paramount on June 12, 2026.
Scary Movie 6 will be directed by Michael Tiddes, who has worked with the Wayans before on White Chicks, A Haunted House, Naked and Sextuplets.
