The Wayans Brothers are back for Scary Movie 6 with Miramax and Paramount

Back in April 2024, we reported that a Scary Movie reboot was in the works. Now, we've just learned that the franchise's creators Keenen Ivory Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Marlon Wayans, aka the Wayans Brothers, are returning to produce and write the screenplay for the upcoming reboot, also widely known as Scary Movie 6. The Wayans Brothers' longtime collaborator Rick Alvarez will also help pen the script and produce.

Fans of the Scary Movie franchise were hoping to see the Wayans Brothers come back in some capacity for the sixth movie, and it looks like their wishes came true. Keenen helmed the first two Scary Movies, while Shawn and Marlon helped write the scripts for those films as well as star. They had nothing to do with the last three movies in the franchise.

Paramount Pictures is set as the distributor for Scary Movie 6 and will be releasing it worldwide, with Miramax fully financing the film. Production is believed to start sometime this fall, followed by an expected theatrical release sometime in 2025.

Unfortunately, no actors have been cast in this movie just yet. However, Anna Faris, who played Cindy Campbell in the first four movies, has expressed her interest in potentially reprising her role. She told People in an interview back in July that she'd come back as Cindy for Scary Movie 6 if the pay is right and if her former co-star Regina Hall, who played Brenda Meeks in the first four films, returns.

"I would love to work with Regina again. I just love her so much. We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly all Regina!"

Back in 2022, Hall also expressed her interest in returning to the franchise and seeing where all the characters are decades later. She spoke with Entertainment Tonight's Matt Cohen and said, "I would love to see where they are now. I don't think it's any place amazing, but I think it'd be fun to see." Fingers crossed, Faris and Hall receive the call to come back because it wouldn't be Scary Movie without these two OGs in it!
