It's a great day for horror fans! After Sony dropped the first teaser for its Until Dawn movie adaptation, Universal Pictures has followed suit with the release of the trailer for its new horror film, The Woman in the Yard. You can check out the thrilling official trailer above before continuing to read on to learn more about the movie.

We first learned of The Woman in the Yard back in February 2024. At the time, it was announced that the movie was in development at Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions. Jaume Collet-Serra, who is known for helming other horror films such as House of Wax, Orphan and The Shallows, was revealed as the director and an executive producer, with Sam Stefanak (F Is for Family) as the screenwriter.

The amazingly talented actress Danielle Deadwyler was also announced to star in and executive produce the film. While initially slated for a January 2025 theatrical release by Universal, the horror movie was eventually pushed back by almost three months. It will now be released in the U.S. theaters on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Described as a psychological horror film, The Woman in the Yard sees Deadwyler playing a much different role than what we're used to. However, this isn't her first horror gig. She previously starred in the A24 supernatural horror film I Saw the TV Glow.

Renowned for her performances in The Harder They Fall, Till, and The Piano Lesson, Deadwyler portrays Ramona, a grieving and severely injured woman. She is left to care for her 14-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter alone in their remote farmhouse after the tragic loss of her husband and their father in a car accident. But things take a dark turn when a mysterious woman dressed in all black suddenly appears on their front yard, issuing a chilling warning. What could this stranger want? Based on the trailer, it can't be anything good, as she appears to be tormenting Ramona and her kids.

Peyton Jackson (Young Dylan) portrays Ramona's son, and Estella Kahiha (Will Trent) plays Ramona's daughter. In addition, Agatha All Along's Okwui Okpokwasili plays the role of the strange woman in the yard, while Russell Hornsby (BMF) portrays Ramona's late husband.
