In October 2024, it was revealed that a new American Psycho movie was in development, with Luca Guadagnino (known for Queer and Challengers) attached to direct and Scott Z. Burns (Extrapolations) writing the script for Lionsgate. Now we've learned that one of the stars from the original 2000 horror classic wants to return and reprise their role in the upcoming reimagining. That star is Golden Globe Award-winning actress Chloë Sevigny, who played Patrick Bateman’s secretary Jean in Mary Harron's American Psycho adaptation.

In a recent interview with IndieWire, Sevigny spoke about her desire to return to the American Psycho universe, expressing interest in reprising her role as Jean in Guadagnino's new take. Although she initially wasn’t sure if the director was officially moving forward with the project, she pitched the idea of returning to her character with the help of de-aging technology. She also noted that while Guadagnino didn’t commit to her idea, he appeared open to finding another role for her, suggesting she could still be part of the movie, even if not as Jean.

"When I heard that [Luca Guadagnino] was maybe doing it, I don’t know if he is for sure. I thought he was doing a World War II picture. I pitched to him that I should play Jean again, and that they do that reverse-aging on me. I thought that would be something that he would be into, conceptually having the same actress play the same part. But I don’t know. He said he was going to think of something else for me.”

Fingers crossed, Sevigny still finds her way into the reimagined American Psycho, whether it’s as Jean or a brand-new character made just for her. Either way, her return would be a welcome nod to the original and a smart addition to Guadagnino’s vision. If Sevigny does officially sign on to the project, this won't be the first project she's collaborated with Guadagnino on. She previously worked with the director on the drama series We Are Who We Are and the romantic horror film Bones and All. She's also set to star in his upcoming thriller film After the Hunt.

The upcoming American Psycho reimagining adapts Bret Easton Ellis' 1991 black comedy horror novel of the same title. Frenesy Films is behind the film, with Sam Pressman signed on as an executive producer. Initially, it was reported that Austin Butler would be taking on the role of Patrick Bateman in this new take, the iconic character originally played by Christian Bale in the 2000 adaptation. But this report turned out not to be true. At CinemaCon 2025, Guadagnino told the audience that he is currently in discussions with some "very exciting performers" for the lead roles. Who those performers are remains under wraps for now, but Guadagnino’s mention of “exciting performers” has certainly sparked anticipation among fans.

The American Psycho book revolves around a successful Manhattan investment banker with a dark secret named Patrick Bateman. While he's outwardly known as a charming and attractive young professional, he secretly leads a double life as a violent and depraved serial killer.
