One of the best horror comedies of this year is scheduled to make its streaming debut on Max this December. We're talking about a movie that people were patiently waiting on for over 30 years. Have you figured it out yet? Yes, it's the highly anticipated sequel to Tim Burton's Beetlejuice (1988), Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Max has set its streaming release date for Friday, Dec. 6, 2024. It will then reportedly have its on-air debut on HBO the following day.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was released in theaters back in September. After a successful theatrical run, ultimately grossing $451.1 million worldwide against a $100 million budget, the horror-comedy will finally be available for people to watch at home via streaming. It's already currently available to rent or purchase on digital platforms such as Fandango at Home, Google Play, or Apple TV+.

I personally got the chance to see this movie in theaters, and it was so funny that I can't wait to rewatch it a second time when it comes to Max. I know sequels can sometimes end up being letdowns, especially ones that take forever to be made. But this isn't the case for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. This film did an excellent job of recapturing the same spirit of the original while adapting its storyline to appeal to contemporary audiences.

Burton returned to direct this sequel with Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Wednesday) penning the script. Fans of the Beetlejuice franchise also got to see the return of some familiar faces from the first film in the sequel, like Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, Catherine O'Hara as Delia Deetz, and Michael Keaton as the titular character Beetlejuice. Wednesday's Jenna Ortega joins the cast, playing the role of Lydia's teenage daughter, Astrid Deetz. Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and many others make up the cast as well.

Set many years after the events of the first film, we follow a now adult Lydia Deetz, who hosts a successful supernatural talk show called "Ghost House." After learning from her stepmother Delia that her father has passed away, she returns home to Winter River with her estranged daughter Astrid to attend his funeral and sort out their old house. However, shortly after their arrival, Lydia's life is upended when Astrid accidentally opens a portal to the afterlife and is tricked into entering.

How will she rescue Astrid from the land of the dead? Well, she could always call on the mischievous ghost Beetlejuice. But his presence comes with far more trouble than it's worth!
