We've just come across an upcoming horror film you’ll want to keep an eye on. It's titled The Rule of Three, and it brings together the talents of Thomasin McKenzie and Katie Douglas as the lead stars. Additionally, it comes from Temple Hill Entertainment, the same production company behind Smile, and Protagonist Pictures. This marks their fourth collaboration, as the companies also teamed up on the upcoming horror movies Clown in a Cornfield and Monitor as well as the comedy Encore.
If you're a book lover and a horror fan, The Rule of Three might ring a bell. It's because it's based on Sam Ripley's 2023 horror novel of the same name. According to Deadline, this film adaptation will be the first part of a planned horror trilogy, meaning it’s intended to be a series of three interconnected films.
James Roday Rodriguez, who is known for directing episodes of shows like Rosewood, The Resident and High Potential, directs this horror flick from a screenplay he co-wrote with Todd Harthan. Harthan also wrote some episodes of the crime drama High Potential. In addition, Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, and Isaac Klausner are signed on as producers, while executive producers include Hal Sadoff, George Berman, Dave Bishop, James Pugh, and George Hamilton.
Protagonist Pictures will be introducing the film to buyers at the upcoming Cannes market. Hopefully, the project will generate strong interest and secure global distribution, setting the stage for what could be a thrilling new horror franchise.
The plot centers around a young woman named Amy who believes her family is cursed by a deadly pattern. Every three years, a mysterious death strikes one of her relatives. Now that it has been nearly three years since her parents died, she begins to fear she’ll be the next victim. Desperate to avoid her fate, Amy teams up with her best friend Lizzy to break the curse before it claims her life.
Katie Douglas, who we'll see next in the slasher Clown in a Cornfield, plays the main character, Amy. On the other hand, Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho) takes on the role of Amy's best friend, Lizzy. They're the only two actors attached to this movie so far.
