6 worst horror movies on Netflix you should avoid
When it comes to horror movies, Netflix has a vast selection to choose from, promising chills and thrills for every type of horror fan. However, some of the horror titles on the streaming platform are just better left unwatched.
Instead of delivering chills, these duds disappoint with lackluster plots, weak performances, and more yawns than screams. Seriously, they are more likely to leave you cringing in disappointment! Look, we don't want you to waste your time. That's why we decided to share below six horror flops currently streaming on Netflix that you should avoid at all costs. Save your time for something truly terrifying instead!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
You know, I really wanted to like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, being a fan of the beloved horror franchise and all. But this installment was a complete letdown. A new TCM movie hadn't come out since 2017, so fans were really looking forward to seeing a new installment. This one just didn't live up to expectations, though.
Let's start with the plot, which, in my opinion, was thin and lacked depth. The story centers around a group of social media influencers who travel to a deserted Texas town with hopes of revitalizing it, only for them to end up in a fight for survival once they come across the infamous serial killer Leatherface.
There was also poor character development. We didn't really get the chance to know the characters well enough for anyone to care about their fates. This movie also relied too heavily on tired horror tropes and predictable plot twists, making it less original and more like a generic slasher.
We have to talk about the lack of suspense and tension as well, which the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies are known for. This installment was so focused on gore and shock value rather than creating a lingering sense of unease. Honestly, there is much more wrong with this film, but I'm going to sum it up by saying that it just doesn't live up to the legacy of the 1974 classic. Skip this horror flick. Trust me, your nerves (and your patience) will thank you.
The Deliverance (2024)
Lee Daniels needs to stick to what he's good at, and horror is definitely not that. While considered to be a supernatural horror film, The Deliverance is more of a family drama than anything, and that's one of my main gripes with this movie. It explores the dynamics of a dysfunctional family for the majority of the film, and then in the final act is when the supernatural elements kick in. And don't get me started on the bad CGI. The hospital and basement scenes were really hard to watch! Those were supposed to be serious moments, but all I could do was laugh.
Overall, The Deliverance doesn't know what type of movie it wants to be, and that's why it didn't resonate with most viewers. Honestly, the best parts of this film were the strong performances by Andra Day, Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Mo'Nique.
The Deliverance is based on the horrifying true story of Latoya Ammons and her family, and centers around a struggling single mother, along with her children, who must battle for survival against a powerful ancient demonic force lurking within their Pittsburgh home.
There's Someone Inside Your House (2021)
I'm sorry, but There's Someone Inside Your House is a complete snoozefest. It's another bad horror movie with a weak and predictable plot and inconsistent pacing. It's supposed to be a slasher, but it didn't deliver on the suspense and tension.
The characters are unmemorable and poorly developed, and the acting isn't too great either. If you want to watch a good slasher, watch the Scream movies instead of this mess. Also, I recommend reading the bestselling novel the film is based on by Stephanie Perkins. Now, that's a good read and an excellent way to spend your time!
The story revolves around Makani Young, a teen girl with a dark past who, after moving to a small town in Nebraska to live with her grandmother, finds herself entangled in a series of brutal murders committed by a masked killer.
Here are three more bad horror movies on Netflix that you should definitely avoid:
- The Open House (2018) - Lack of tension and scares, underwhelming final act, weak script, too predictable, badly paced
- In the Tall Grass (2019) - Lack of real suspense, pacing issues, too long and drawn out, lack of character depth
- Killer Book Club (2023) - Slow pacing, heavily relies on gore, lacking originality, subpar acting
