Another one of A24's horror movies from this year will be headed to digital soon. It's the horror-comedy Y2K, and it will be available on digital platforms a little earlier than expected. We're not complaining, though. Now, we have something new to watch before the year wraps up.
According to an A24 press release, Y2K will be released on digital on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2024, aka Christmas Eve. On this date, you'll be able to rent or purchase the film through digital platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and AppleTV. In fact, you currently have the option to pre-order the movie on these sites for the price of $24.99 before taxes.
Will Y2K come to streaming? Yes, the horror-comedy will eventually land on a streaming platform. It will most likely drop on Max at a later date because of a multiyear exclusive deal that Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has with the indie production company.
For example, some of A24's horror releases from this year, like MaXXXine and I Saw the TV Glow, are already streaming on Max. The Front Room starring Brandy is another A24 horror film from this year that will be released on Max this January. Once Y2K receives a streaming release date, we'll come back and let you know.
Kyle Mooney helmed the horror-comedy from a script that he co-wrote with Evan Winter. The story revolves around a group of high schoolers battling to survive as the Y2K bug triggers a global technological uprising, turning machines against humanity. The cast is made up of new and familiar faces such as Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, Julian Dennison, Lachlan Watson, Mason Gooding, Fred Durst, Alicia Silverstone, and others.
Want the Y2K original soundtrack CD? You can purchase one from A24's online shop. A special limited edition VHS was available to buy at one point, but it's sold out now. Don't forget. Y2K heads to digital platforms this Christmas Eve!
