From the very first chilling moments of Yellowjackets season 1, one mystery has loomed larger than the rest: the identity of Pit Girl. Over the course of multiple seasons, fans have come up with endless theories, dissected every frame, and debated every clue to figure out who the unlucky girl was who met an unimaginably gruesome fate in the premiere.
Two of the character names to constantly come up have been Mari and Callie since the girl seen running through the woods before meeting her tragic end looked somewhat similar to them with her dark hair and similar body frame. Some fans even theorized that Pit Girl might be a new character introduced later in the series.
In Yellowjackets season 3, a new character named Hannah enters the story, sparking further speculation as she seems to fit the description of Pit Girl. Hannah is a frog scientist who, alongside her boyfriend Edwin, crosses paths with the survivors in the Canadian wilderness. But is she really Pit Girl? Could she be Mari or Callie? Well, we finally find out Pit Girl's true identity in the Yellowjackets season 3 finale.

Mari is Pit Girl in Yellowjackets season 3
Who did you think Pit Girl was? Did you guess Mari? If so, you were right! After seasons of speculation and theories swirling around, the season 3 finale of Yellowjackets finally confirmed that Pit Girl was indeed Mari. If you had Mari on your list of suspects, then kudos to you for cracking the mystery!
Now this is how it all plays out. After surviving a harsh winter earlier in the series, the survivors finally catch a break when summer arrives at the start of season 3. However, in the season 3 finale, a second winter descends upon them, and Lottie proposes another hunt after all the animals in their compound are found dead. She theorizes that it's because the wilderness is angry with them. She believes that to appease it, they must offer up another sacrifice. This leads them to plan yet another hunt.
Van is in charge of dealing the cards that will determine who becomes the next sacrifice. Tai manages to convince her to secretly rig the game in their favor to ensure their safety. But there's still one crucial decision to make. Who will be dealt the Queen of Hearts, the card that marks someone for the hunt? Van and Tai eventually come to a decision, and the next morning, the first part of the sacrificial ritual begins. One by one, the survivors draw a card from the stack, but the Queen of Hearts has yet to appear. Finally, it comes down to the last two: Shauna and Mari.
However, Shauna quickly catches on that Van and Tai rigged the game, clearly intending for her to draw the Queen of Hearts. Sensing the setup, she shifts to stand beside Tai, a move that changes the course of the draw. She ends up pulling a random card, dodging the deadly fate. But Mari isn’t so fortunate. When it's her turn, she draws the Queen of Hearts, marking her as the next sacrifice. Jackie's heart-shaped necklace is fastened around her neck, and then the girls start the countdown. Mari wastes no time and sprints into the woods, with the other girls chasing after her.
To throw the others off her trail, Mari ditches her jacket and drapes it over a branch to create a false lead, then darts off in the opposite direction. But her escape doesn't go smoothly. She stumbles and injures her foot, slowing her down. Along the way, she crosses paths with Lottie, who has just emerged from the cave. They exchange a brief conversation before Mari presses on. Tragically, she ends up running straight into the spike pit that Travis had previously set to trap Lottie. Now hidden beneath a thick layer of snow, the pit is impossible to see. Mari falls down, landing on the sharpened stakes below. She's killed instantly. Van is the first to discover her body, with the rest of the girls arriving moments later.
Of all the deaths in this series, Mari's is undoubtedly one of the most gut-wrenching. It's not just the sheer brutality of it, but also the tragic build-up. Then, there's the close-up of her bloody, lifeless body impaled on the stakes that really drives home the horror of it all. We also can’t overlook what happens to her body after her death. Similar to Jackie and Javi, Mari is mutilated and turned into food. But before we even get to that point, her naked body is dragged through the snow and tied to a tree. From there, Natalie is ordered to dismember her. Another chilling close-up shows the blood dripping from her body onto the ground. And if that wasn’t enough, Shauna then requests that Natalie bring her Mari's hair once she’s finished. Truthfully, her whole death scene was really hard to watch.
