Laura gets revenge on her cheating ex-boyfriend Jacob
At the beginning of the film, we find out that the reason why Laura and Jacob are no longer together is because Jacob couldn't take having to take care of her after finding out that she has cancer. He was there at the beginning stages when she had to go through all the treatments, but he eventually grew tired of her and her medical condition and decided to walk out on her just as she was recovering from surgery.
Laura was devastated and spent her days after being released from the hospital moping around her childhood home. It wasn't until she encountered the monster living in her closet that things started to look up for her. While she and Monster didn't initially get along, with Monster even wanting to kick her out of her own house at first, they begin to develop somewhat of a friendship as they spend time together. Monster encouraged Laura to follow her dreams, to speak up for herself, and not to be a pushover.
That led to her auditioning for a role in Jacob's stage play, where she ended up becoming the understudy to the lead actress, Jackie Dennon. While it was a struggle to have to see her ex every day and work with him, Laura was determined to do what she loved. However, everything came tumbling down after she caught Jacob, and who she believed to be Jackie, hooking up at a Halloween party. However, we find out later that Jackie had never hooked up with Jacob. He was hooking up with Mazie, Laura's close friend, the entire time. Laura finds this out the night of the big show.
Laura decides to team up with Jackie to get revenge on Jacob. The plan was for Laura to take Jackie's spot in the play and change how the show was supposed to go. While Jackie did end up doing this, she decided to do something extra that wasn't planned, and that was kill Jacob.
During intermission, Jacob argues with Laura about how she's destroying his show. He even starts calling her pathetic, which prompts her to tell him to stop talking to her in a degrading way or she'll rip his throat out. Jacob decides not to listen to her warning, not knowing that Monster is waiting in the shadows to do her dirty work. Monster suddenly appears and rips out his throat. We then see a bloody Laura performing the last song of the play on stage with Jacob's dead body lying nearby.
Do Laura and Monster end up together in Your Monster?
Yes, Laura and Monster end up together in the end. As they spend time together getting to know one another, romantic sparks start to fly, and they even end up sleeping together. While everything seems to be going in the right direction, Monster asks Laura out on a date. Laura accepts the invitation but ends up standing him up to sleep with Jacob. She returns home to tell Monster what she did and they argue before she locks him in the closet and tells him to go away.
Monster listens to her request and disappears, but Laura regrets her decision right away. While it seems like Monster is gone for good, he shows up on opening night and kills Jacob for Laura. They reunite behind the stage curtains and share a passionate kiss.
