Lions at the Gate: The real reason Ash vs Evil Dead’s future is in trouble

With fans wondering when the next season of ‘Ash vs Evil Dead’ is coming, Ash himself, Bruce Campbell, is addressing why STARZ is delaying the series.

The world of Ash vs Evil Dead is getting darker.

If you’re a horror fan, you know something’s strange in Elk Grove. After two amazing seasons on the STARZ network, the future of the Evil Dead series is uncertain. With speculation Season 3 is premiering in at the end of the year or in early 2018, there’s no firm word on when “The Ghost Beaters” are returning. And now, it seems corporate acquisitions are to blame.

Here’s what Bruce Campbell, one of the biggest icons in horror, is saying about the STARZ situation in an interview with Red Carpet Crash:

"STARZ is excited about the outcome. And I think they want to see those (Season 3, episode 9 and 10) in finished forum, and think it’ll help them make their decision. I know they really dig the last two episode so that may be enough to…and look, they are owned by Lionsgate now. They were purchased, now our bosses have bosses. So there’s a little more chain of command now. So we’ll see."

I swear, it’s always dudes in suits making decisions.

While I knew there was blood in the water, I didn’t know it’s because of a regime change. Now that Lionsgate owns STARZ, a bigger corporation is overseeing the series — performance is a must. Lionsgate, the studio behind the iconic Saw series, apparently isn’t seeing money from Ash vs Evil Dead, which is sad. But that brings me to the most important point of all.

Look, I love every Deadite out there, but you have to put your money where your mouth is. Just like WCW with the AOL/ Time Warner merger, Lionsgate is holding Ash accountable. I’ve seen people say “I can’t get STARZ” or “I can’t afford it” and that is straight bull crap.

Guys, I’m not rich, so I understand funds being tight but we have to support what we love — or it goes away. People vote with their money, not how much they see for free. So we have to make a stand. When the show does come back, we all have to subscribe to STARZ. If you love Evil Dead as much as 1428 Elm, it’s a small price to pay
