A new trailer for the upcoming Blair Witch game reveals more of the story. Here are three reasons the game should make fans excited.

Fans have been anticipating the new Blair Witch game since the eerily gorgeous trailer debuted at E3. The collaboration between Bloober Team and Lionsgate Games has everyone anticipating a quality narrative and storyline.

We finally have the official story trailer for the game, which will be released in a little over a week, and it looks amazing. It’s currently available to pre-order through Steam or the Xbox One store. Unfortunately, the game is not going to be released on Playstation 4, at least, for the time being.

3. Ellis sounds like a tragic hero

I wonder if the name “Ellis” is a reference to the ghost of Elly Kedward (the woman who would eventually become the Blair Witch), has to be, right? If so, we could consider the possibility Ellis is a descendant of hers somehow – or it could just be a fun nod.

Ellis seems ripe for a tragic new horror hero. Ellis, a former cop, aids in the investigation for a boy who has gone missing in the infamous Black Hills Forest.

Based on his voiceover in the trailer, it appears he is haunted by something in his past. I’m sure the Blair Witch will have a field day tormenting his mind.

2. First-person perspective

It appears Blair Witch will be a first-person survival game, although it looks like the story will be of utmost importance, which I always appreciate. It’s unclear if you’ll be able to alter into third-person but I doubt it.

First-person POV is a great tactic for horror games. It makes you feel immersed in the world. If you’ve ever wanted to explore the Blair Witch’s terrain, nows your chance. Of course, first-person also makes everything ten times scarier, so be sure you’re prepared for whats to come!

1. Homages to the original film

Essentially a necessity to the game is to ensure it pays homage to the original film and this one does in spades. We see the iconic symbol both in the logo for the game but also hanging from the trees and held in Ellis’s hand.

Clearly, they’re going to give us some fun references and easter eggs harkening back to the classic film. Plus, there are moments you can see Ellis, or you, the protagonist, holding a video camera. The dank basement and creepy house in the woods are all also present and accounted for.
