Horror convention Spooky Empire adds Elvira and Alice Cooper to lineup
By Carla Davis
Florida’s very own horror convention Spooky Empire is held twice a year, in the spring and in October. A few months ago, Spooky announced that their October 2019 convention would be moving from its usual location in Orlando to Tampa.
Spooky Empire added an extra day to their activities, and this year’s dates will be Thursday, Oct. 31 through Sunday, Nov. 3. In the past, the event has been held on a Friday through Sunday schedule, but it’s only fitting that they would add Halloween Day.
Since that big news, guest announcements have been trickling out one at a time, and a couple of big ones were made this week. It seems The Queen of Halloween will be paying us a visit this year!
That’s right, the one and only Elvira will be returning to Spooky Empire, with the rare opportunity for an in-costume photo op on Friday, Nov. 1. She will be signing autographs as her “real” self, Cassandra Peterson on Saturday and Sunday.
Also announced was the appearance of legendary shock-rocker Alice Cooper, who will be available for autographs on Friday and Saturday. He will have a one-day-only photo op on Saturday.
Previously announced guests include:
Tony Todd – Known for his deep voice, Todd is best remembered for his roles in Candyman, Wishmaster and Final Destination.
Mia Farrow – Farrow’s best-known role was Rosemary in classic horror film Rosemary’s Baby. She will be at Spooky Empire one day only.
C.J. Graham – Graham played Jason in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives.
Clive Barker – Writer/Director Barker is the man responsible for Hellraiser, Candyman, Midnight Meat Train and Night Breed.
Sam Raimi – Raimi is the director of films such as Evil Dead, Drag Me to Hell and Crawl.
Ted Raimi – Sam’s brother has starred in the films Evil Dead, Army of Darkness and Spider-Man.
Bruce Campbell – Bruce is known for playing Ash Williams in the Evil Dead trilogy. He has also appeared in numerous projects, including Burn Notice, Bubba Ho-tep and My Name is Bruce.
James Hong – You’ve seen Hong in Big Trouble in Little China, Blade Runner and Tank Girl (among many other films).
Danielle Harris – Best known for playing young Jamie in Halloween IV and Halloween V, Harris also appeared in Rob Zombie’s Halloween, Hatchet 2 and Stakeland.
Joe Bob Briggs – Briggs is known for showing and providing humorous commentary for cult and B-movies on his Shudder series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs.
