The Conjuring 3 is still a way off, but Patrick Wilson recently teased the possibility of a furry nemesis in the third go-round.

We won’t see The Conjuring 3 in theaters until September of next year, but fans have been trying to figure out which case from paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren the franchise will pull from next.

Previously, 1428 Elm reported that producer James Wan wanted to tackle the infamous court case that used demonic possession as a defense.

However, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, film star Patrick Wilson — who plays Ed Warren in the franchise — revealed the next film in the trilogy might go in a different, more furry, direction.

"“The process [of making Conjuring 3] was fantastic, and it’s a much different feel. It’s still the same bones; it’s still very much Ed and Lorraine. Again, we are pushing our characters to places they haven’t gone, but the film will be a really nice addition because it’s definitely a different beast. Pun intended."

Interestingly enough, James Wan interviewed with Cinema Blend three years ago, where he mentioned the possibility of including lycanthropy in the third film. At the time, he brought up American Werewolf in London as a potential inspiration.

Since then, the prolific horror director has changed his tune, bringing up the legal case instead. But with Wilson’s recent quotes, it looks like Wan could be reverting to his original idea.

Ed and Lorraine Warren did investigate a supposed werewolf in the past. It was known as the case of the Southend werewolf. A “werewolf demon” reportedly possessed a carpenter named Bill Ramsey. If you think that sounds ridiculous, so did the Warrens.

Both Ed and Lorraine believed Ramsey’s case to be a hoax. Upon further investigation, they were convinced enough by his apparent bouts of superhuman strength and rage to help Ramsey overcome his possession through an exorcism.
