10. Layers of Fear (2016)

More from Video Games

As with a lot of games on this list, Layers of Fear is very heavy on narrative and focuses mainly on puzzle-solving and exploration.

This first-person game has players taking the role of a disturbed artist who is wandering around a mansion in attempts to complete his masterpiece. Throughout the exploration, players start to uncover disturbing secrets about the painter.

With each chapter completed, the game’s difficulty increases. And Layers of Fear definitely doesn’t shy away from jump scares.

9. The Evil Within 2 (2017)

The Evil Within (2014) was a perfectly fine game; it had some issues, but it worked. So, it was only to be expected that The Evil Within 2 would come in, and fix most of the problems that its predecessor had. And it did! Plus, The Evil Within 2 turned the game into a terrifying open world experience teeming with side missions.

In The Evil Within 2, we are once again in the shoes of Sebastian Castellanos. Castellanos is on the search for his daughter, Lily. Unfortunately, the only way to save her is to team up with Mobius — the group that was responsible for destroying his former life.

The Evil Within 2 allows the player to choose how they’re going to play the game — use stealth, attack with guns ablazin’, or flee from danger.
