1428 Elm last spoke with Julian Hilliard a year and a half ago, and we recently had the opportunity to catch up with him after what has been a very good year for the ten-year-old actor.

Julian Hilliard first captured viewers’ attention (and hearts) when he played young Luke in the hit Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House, but since then, he has appeared in Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, Color Out of Space, WandaVision and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

1428 Elm: Hi, Julian! You have had a pretty busy year with both WandaVision and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, congratulations! As I recall, you love Marvel, so tell me how excited you were to play Billy, and what was that experience like?

Julian Hilliard: So, one out of ten, it was a billion, trillion, quadrillion…you get it. The experience was incredible. Honestly, a dream come true. When I saw Lizzie and Paul in their superhero costumes for the first time in person, I just…well, my mouth dropped to the floor. The cast was so fun, professional, generous, and I loved working with all of them. There were lots of jokes too! It was a really fun set. Lizzie is so talented and hilarious. And Jett really is like a brother.

Julian Hilliard has appeared in so many horror movies, and we had to know if he likes to watch horror as well.

1428 Elm: You have appeared in several scary movies – The Haunting of Hill House, Color Out of Space and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Do you like to watch scary movies? Which are your favorites?

Julian Hilliard: 100% yes, I love scary movies. I’m not allowed to watch all of them, but the ones I’ve seen are really good. My favorites are…well, Alien first! I also love Night of the Living Dead, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and I still love Rear Window too. And last but not least, the Universal Monster Films, especially Frankenstein and The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

1428 Elm: Did you get to watch any of the scary scenes in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It? They were pretty cool, especially the waterbed scene and the scene where you were possessed!

Julian Hilliard: Yes! I was able to watch all of the scenes. I did close my eyes for a little bit during the morgue scene. The waterbed scene and the possession scene were so fun to shoot. I’d have to say when watching, the waterbed scene turned out a little scarier, but neither were too scary to me since I was there when we filmed them. And that, sadly, takes away some of the fright.
