Another Emmy-winning comedy actor has joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection, the upcoming sequel series to Dexter: New Blood. Eric Stonestreet, who famously played Cameron Tucker on all 11 seasons of Modern Family, has been tapped to recur on the series in what is believed to be a serial killer role.

The exclusive comes from Deadline, the same outlet that previously reported both Neil Patrick Harris and Krysten Ritter's casting news. Apparently, all three characters are playing serial killers as part of their guest-starring arcs. It remains to be seen if they're going to work together in some capacity, or just be one of several villains that Dexter has to eliminate.

Deadline says Stonestreet has been cast as a character named Al. Like the actor, Al also hails from the Midwest and will reportedly appear in four episodes as part of a "high profile guest-arc."

Besides the aforementioned stars, Dexter: Resurrection will also feature Peter Dinklage as billionaire Leon Prater with Uma Thurman playing Leon's head of security, Charley.

While Stonestreet is best known for his comedic roles in projects like Modern Family, Identity Thief, and The Santa Clauses, the actor has starred in some darker projects in the past. Like Harris, Stonestreet once guest-starred on American Horror Story and one of his earliest roles to date was playing Ronnie Litre in the original CSI.

The Dexter franchise continues going strong over 12 years since the original series came to an end. In 2021, original showrunner Clyde Phillips and star Michael C. Hall returned for sequel series New Blood, which was a way for them to "redo" the polarizing season 8 ending. Funnily enough, New Blood also had a polarizing ending that they've again nixed.

In the New Blood season finale, Dexter's son, Harrison, seemed to kill his father, but then in the recent prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, it was revealed that Dexter narrowly survived the gunshot wound. Hall will be back to play the title role in Resurrection, which is currently filming in New York and expected to premiere later this year.

Jack Alcott is also returning as Harrison alongside James Remar as Harry Morgan and David Zayas as Angel Batista. Other cast members include Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, and Emilia Suárez.

Original Sin recently aired its season finale in February on Paramount+ with Showtime, the same service where Resurrection will debut. Per the outlet, Original Sin hit a streaming high with its finale, raking in over 2.68 million global viewers. It is expected to get a season 2 renewal.
