One of the best horror movies of this year so far would have to be Heart Eyes. Released in theaters in early February, the slasher quickly became a standout for its perfect mix of horror and comedy and its brutal and gruesome kills. Now it's streaming on Netflix, giving even more horror fans the chance to experience this twisted Valentine’s Day massacre from the comfort of their own couch.
Heart Eyes introduces viewers to a brand-new masked killer who I’d argue rivals some of the most iconic in the genre. The Heart Eyes Killer is relentless. Once they set their sights on a target, there's no escaping their deadly pursuit. The killer doesn't like couples and seems to have a particular obsession with tearing apart those in loving relationships by murdering them in the most horrific ways imaginable. You definitely don't want to be caught in their crosshairs! This is something the film's protagonists learn the hard way as they're forced into a deadly game of survival after they're mistaken for a couple.
After watching this blood-soaked horror flick, I'm sure you'll be craving more slasher action. Luckily, you won't have to go far to satisfy that craving. Netflix has a fantastic selection of other gory slashers on its platform that will keep your adrenaline pumping and your heart racing. We listed four good ones below!
Scream VI (2023)
Ghostface is hands down one of the most iconic masked killers in horror history. From the eerie white skull mask to the haunting voice, I doubt you want to find yourself on the receiving end of their calls. Like Heart Eyes, Ghostface preys on vulnerable victims, often targeting those in the midst of normal, everyday life. In Scream VI, the killer embarks on a murderous spree in New York City.
After surviving the events of the previous film (Scream), sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter and two of their friends and fellow survivors have relocated to the Big Apple. As the Carpenter sisters and their friends try to adjust to their new lives, they quickly realize that their past trauma is far from over. A new Ghostface has emerged, and they are hellbent on finishing the bloody work left undone
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
When you're talking about some of the best slasher franchises, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise must absolutely come up in discussion. These films are the definition of raw, unrelenting horror, and the franchise's latest entry, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, is no exception.
Set 50 years after the original film, the story follows a group of influencers who travel to the small Texas town of Harlow with plans to gentrify and modernize the area. However, their efforts quickly spiral into a nightmare they couldn't have predicted. They encounter the infamous Leatherface, the chainsaw-wielding, human skin mask-wearing killer, who has a taste for violence. Their trip then turns into a deadly fight for survival.
Fear Street Part Two: 1978 (2021)
While the entire Fear Street trilogy on Netflix is pretty gory, Fear Street Part Two: 1978 stands out as the most intense. With its bloody kills, high body count, and classic camp slasher vibes, it delivers the most violent and disturbing scenes of the series, making it essential viewing for fans of hardcore horror. Based on R. L. Stine's book series of the same name, the slasher follows a group of campers at Camp Nightwing who must survive a brutal killing spree while uncovering the dark history of their cursed town, Shadyside.
A fourth Fear Street movie is coming to Netflix very soon. It's titled Fear Street: Prom Queen, and it is slated to be released on the streaming platform on May 23. Don't forget to save the date!
Thanksgiving (2023)
What's with these masked killers and wanting to murder people on holidays? The Heart Eyes Killer turns Valentine's Day, a day meant for love, into a horrific bloodbath in Heart Eyes. Then, you have the John Carver killer in Thanksgiving, who transforms the warmth of the Thanksgiving holiday into a brutal slaughter. What's next? A new serial killer starts terrorizing people on Easter, or maybe a masked killer turns the joy of New Year's Eve into a night of terror. Either way, count me in! I'm here for whatever twisted holiday horror comes next.
One year after a deadly Black Friday riot at a superstore, a killer wearing a pilgrim's mask starts hunting down those involved, picking them off one by one in increasingly gruesome ways. What's their motive? Well, that's something you'll have to find out by watching it on Netflix.
You can watch all four of these bloody slashers on Netflix right now.
