Shudder features monthly collections that bring mayhem, intrigue, and horror. Their other extensive movie collections are also worth exploring. Read about some of those collections below.

Slashics: Your First Stop for Slasher Cinema

Under "Horror 101," the collection titled Slashics showcases significant films that have influenced an entire generation of modern slasher movies. It includes the 1982 cult classic Pieces, which tells the story of a boy named Timmy who dismembers his domineering mother. Four decades later, similar murders begin to plague the town—could Timmy be back?

Another slasher classic featured in the collection is Prom Night, a 1980 film starring Jamie Lee Curtis as a high school senior who is haunted by the past when a killer seeks revenge on prom night. Both Pieces and Prom Night are known for their ability to incorporate unintentional humor into the narrative. Additionally, the collection includes classic films like Halloween (1978), Black Christmas (1974), and The Slumber Party Massacre (1977), as well as a Shudder original, In A Violent Nature, (2024) which, like it's predecessors, is sure to entertain.

Gross Anatomy: Body Horror Basics

Some moviegoers may shy away from films that feature the term "body horror," but thanks to directors like David Cronenberg and Clive Barker, the genre has been presented in a tasteful yet terrifying manner on the big screen, gaining a significant following. The collection Gross Anatomy showcases a variety of body horror classics, including Rabid (1977), Basket Case (1982), and Two Evil Eyes (1991), as well as a number of Shudder Originals.

One of the most recent releases is The Ugly Stepsister (2025), a dark spin on the Cinderella story that follows Elvira, the titular stepsister, who will go to any lengths to win the Prince's heart, including undergoing some colonial-era body modifications that may make your stomach turn. Another noteworthy film is Mosquito State (2022), a twisted psychological body horror tale about a Wall Street data analyst who is haunted and stalked by swarms of bloodthirsty mosquitoes intent on devouring him. Dive into one of these body horrors, but make sure you're not on a full stomach!

Anthologies: Terrifying Tales to (Not) Go to Sleep To

Anthologies are entertaining as books, but some become even more enjoyable with movies. The anthologies in this collection mainly focus on holidays like Halloween and Christmas. Included are All Hallows' Eve (2013), which features the killer Art the Clown, along with its sequel. Also featured is All the Creatures Were Stirring (2018), a chilling collection of Christmas stories centered around sadistic office parties, last-minute shopping disasters, and immortal demons. There's certainly plenty of uncheer to go around!

Don't miss Channel Zero (2016-2018), a television series that presents a different horrifying story each season. Each season is based on popular web-based creepypasta stories, such as Candle Cove (Season 1) and The No-End House (Season 2), among others.

Additionally, the Shudder original found-footage anthologies V/H/S are worth watching. V/H/S/85 (2023) features five tales of terror, including the segment Dreamkill, directed by Scott Derrickson, which is directly connected to The Black Phone (2022) starring Ethan Hawke.

Giallo: The Essentials for the Italian Genre

Giallo, a genre characterized by mystery, crime, eroticism, and sometimes supernatural elements, experienced its peak from 1968 to 1978, particularly flourishing between 1971 and 1975. This Shudder collection showcases key films from this subgenre, including Mario Bava's Blood and Black Lace (1963). This stylish yet terrifying tale follows a killer stalking and murdering models at an Italian fashion house. The film significantly influenced directors like Dario Argento, who went on to create iconic giallo films such as The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970), Deep Red (1976), and Tenebrae (1982).

Another influential giallo featured in the collection is The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh, (1971) starring Edwige Fenech, known as the "Giallo Queen." In this film, she plays a diplomat's wife who is being stalked by a killer while grappling with her dark desires. An artisic modern take on giallo is Knife + Heart (2019), the tale of Anne (Vanessa Paradis), a gay porn producer, who finds herself immersed in a strange murder mystery when one of her actors is murdered.

Giallo films are perfect for a rainy day indoors, so grab your popcorn and black leather gloves and get ready to settle in with this exceptional Shudder collection.
