One of the horror movies to look out for this summer is the highly anticipated I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel. It's been 19 years since we've seen a new film in the horror franchise, and fans are buzzing with excitement over the return of familiar faces and a new batch of characters who are about to become targets of a vengeful killer.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson co-wrote the script with Sam Lansky as well as directed the slasher. Columbia Pictures is the production company behind the film, with Sony as distributor. Set for a July 18 release in theaters, this movie should be your main priority. Luckily, it's the only horror flick to hit theaters on this date. So you don't have to worry about picking and choosing between films. I Know What You Did Last Summer will have the spotlight all to itself, making it the ultimate summer horror experience.

Serving as a direct sequel to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, we follow a new group of teens who are involved in a car accident that results in someone's death. Instead of taking responsibility, they decide to cover it up and make a pact to keep it a secret, hoping to avoid the consequences of their actions. However, their secret doesn’t remain hidden for long, as a year later, they become the target of a killer who knows the truth and is out for revenge. As they are taken down one by one, the friend group soon learns that this has happened before to others and seeks help from two survivors who might just be able to help them escape the same fate.

The cast is made up of Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez. Additionally, original cast members Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. return to reprise their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson from the first two movies in the franchise. Julie and Ray are the two survivors of the Southport Massacre of 1997 who will be helping the new batch of teens navigate the horrors they now face and hopefully stop the killer before it's too late.

Last year, there were discussions about the possibility of another original cast member returning for the legacy sequel. Brandy, who portrayed Karla Wilson in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, told The Hollywood Reporter in July 2024 that she was unaware of the sequel at that time but expressed interest in returning to her role if given the chance. Since then, there has been no official confirmation on whether she has signed on for the project.

While we still don't know for sure if she'll appear in the slasher, I Know What You Did Last Summer director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson recently played coy when asked about Brandy’s potential return, teasing that fans will need "to go see the movie." I don't know about you, but that sounds like a hint that we might just get a surprise appearance from Brandy's character, Karla Wilson, in the sequel. Fans will definitely have to wait and see if the beloved character makes her return, but it’s certainly fueling excitement for the film’s release.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is slated to be released in theaters on Friday, July 18, 2025.
