It's a new month, and with it comes a bunch of new horror movies hitting theaters and releasing on streaming platforms. Titles like Clown in a Cornfield, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Fear Street: Prom Queen, A Breed Apart, The Surrender and Bring Her Back are all set to make their debut in May. While we recommend checking them all out, there’s one that truly demands your attention and you'd regret missing. That horror film would be Final Destination Bloodlines.

It's been a long time coming, but a sixth installment of the iconic Final Destination horror franchise is finally upon us. A new Final Destination movie hadn't been released since 2011, so fans have been eagerly awaiting this franchise's long-overdue return. Early screenings are already generating a lot of buzz with some regular viewers and critics praising Final Destination Bloodlines, calling it the "best in the franchise." Based on first reactions to this horror flick, I'd say it’s living up to the hype in every way and I can't wait to see it on the big screen myself.

New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures are behind this new installment. Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein helmed the supernatural horror while Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor wrote the script. The film serves as a sequel, delving into the origins of the supernatural force that causes the gruesome deaths in the series. Yes, we're talking about Death itself. The plot centers on Iris, a woman who managed to cheat Death sometime before the events of the first Final Destination film. She then goes on to live a normal life, building a family. However, Death is now returning to claim her life and the lives of those she holds dear.

Stefani, a college student and one of Iris's family members, is haunted by a violent, recurring nightmare about her family's doomed fate. Driven by fear, she returns home to seek help from Iris, seeing as though she's the only one who might hold the answers to stop the terrifying fate that awaits them.

Some of the cast members you might recognize, while others you might not. Gabrielle Rose plays an older Iris, while Brec Bassinger plays her younger version. Kaitlyn Santa Juana portrays the role of Stefani, the college student desperate for answers. Also in the cast are Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Rya Kihlstedt, Anna Lore, and many others. The late Tony Todd also stars in this film, reprising his role as William Bludworth from previous Final Destination movies.

Final Destination is known for its inventive, suspense-filled death scenes, and after looking at the thrilling official trailer for Final Destination Bloodlines, it's clear the new sequel is staying true to that legacy. Longtime fans and newcomers alike are definitely in for a wild ride with this film!

Final Destination Bloodlines releases in theaters everywhere on Friday, May 16, 2025. You can stream the first five movies on Max with a subscription.
