We're almost another month down, and just before August wraps up, there's one horror movie all horror fans should be headed to the theaters to see. It's the new sci-fi horror film Afraid starring John Cho, Katherine Waterston, Havana Rose Liu, Lukita Maxwell, David Dastmalchian, and Keith Carradine. It is set to be released in theaters on Aug. 30, so make sure to buy your ticket to see it!

While August was a great month for horror with the theatrical releases of horror flicks such as Trap, Cuckoo, Alien: Romulus, Strange Darling and now Afraid, September looks to be an even better month.

In September, there are six must-see horror movies slated to hit theaters. What are they, you ask? No worries! We shared the titles below.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Release date: Sept. 6, 2024

After over 36 years, there's finally a sequel to one of the best horror comedies ever made. We're talking about Beetlejuice (1988), and its long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be headed to theaters at the beginning of September.

In this film, we'll see the return of Winona Ryder as a now adult Lydia Deetz, Catherine O'Hara as Delia Deetz, and Michael Keaton as the titular character Beetlejuice. Joining them in the cast are Wednesday's Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and others.

Here's the movie's synopsis via the official Warner Bros website:

"Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem."

The Front Room

Release date: Sept. 6, 2024

So, there's another must-see horror movie hitting theaters on the same day as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. It's A24's new psychological horror film, The Front Room, which stars singer-actress Brandy Norwood as a newly pregnant woman who finds her and her family's life threatened when her wicked mother-in-law moves into their home. Andrew Burnap, Neal Huff, and Kathryn Hunter are also in the cast.

We would never tell you to pick one horror movie over the other. Instead, we recommend making it a whole-day affair. Why not watch Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and The Front Room back to back? That's what we'll be doing!

Speak No Evil

Release date: Sept. 13, 2024

Speak No Evil is a remake of the 2022 Danish horror movie of the same name. The film centers around an American family who, after befriending a British family while on vacation, is invited to spend the weekend at their idyllic country house. But what was supposed to be a blissful weekend away turns into a complete nightmare when the British family begins to exhibit strange behavior.

James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Aisling Franciosi, Alix West Lefler, Dan Hough, and Scoot McNairy all star in this psychological horror.

The Substance

Release date: Sept. 20, 2024

We have horror movie competition again! On Sept. 20, The Substance and two other horror movies will be released in theaters. We'll share those two other movies later, but we're about to talk about The Substance right now.

It's a body horror film centering around an aging movie star named Elisabeth Sparkle, who is suddenly fired from her job because of her age. While feeling down in the dumps about her firing, she comes across an unexpected opportunity. If she takes a black market drug called "The Substance," she'll become a younger, better version of herself. However, it only works temporarily, and it has terrible side effects that Elisabeth will soon begin to experience.

Demi Moore stars in the leading role of Elisabeth Sparkle. Margaret Qualley, Dennis Quaid, Hugo Diego Garcia, Phillip Schurer, Joseph Balderrama, Tom Morton, and Robin Greer join her in the cast.

Bagman

Release date: Sept. 20, 2024

Bagman stars Sam Claflin as a desperate father and husband who will do everything in his power to protect his family from an evil mythical creature that used to haunt him as a kid and is now back to hunt him and his family now. Antonia Thomas, Sharon D Clarke, Steven Cree, William Hope, Adelle Leonce, Peter McDonald, Henry Pettigrew, Caréll Rhoden, and Will Davis are also in the cast.

Never Let Go

Release date: Sept. 20, 2024

Halle Berry stars in this survival horror film about a mother who does everything she can to protect her twin sons from the evil that lurks right outside their front door. For many years, the mother has protected her twin boys from a malicious spirit that's been tormenting them. But when one of the boys decides to go against what they've been taught and puts their lives at risk, it becomes a fight for survival. The rest of the cast is made up of Percy Daggs IV, Anthony B. Jenkins, Matthew Kevin Anderson, Christin Park, and Stephanie Lavigne.
