One of our favorite final girls and scream queens, Samara Weaving, is back in a new horror film titled Azrael. It's now showing in select theaters and will be available to stream on Shudder at a later date.

Azrael takes place years after the apocalypse. It's set in a world in which some people have renounced the use of speech. One of those people is a young woman by the name of Azrael (Samara Weaving). She was once captured by a mysterious, mute cult but managed to escape from their clutches. Unfortunately, she finds herself captured again, but this time, she is to be sacrificed to appease the flesh-eating demons that reside deep within the wilderness. Azrael is a tough cookie, though, and she's not going down without a fight.

What happens to Azrael at the end of the horror film? Does she survive? Does she get her revenge? Here's a breakdown of that explosive ending.

Spoilers from Azrael ahead!

How does Azrael end?

First, I want to answer two of the questions above. Yes, Azrael survives and gets her revenge on the cult that imprisoned her. How? Well, let's get into that now.

After losing her boyfriend/fiancé to the flesh-eating demons in the forest, Azrael is determined more than ever to get her revenge on the cult that's been after her. Armed with a gun, she heads back to the cult's camp and finds the cult's leader, who is a pregnant woman. They engage in a short fight that ends with Azrael getting knocked out with a pan. However, she manages to injure the cult leader by scratching her pregnant stomach as she falls to the ground.

Some of the cult members then take a bloody Azrael to the forest, where they throw her in a box underground. They close the box before throwing some dirt on top of it. Now trapped underground, Azrael kicks open the bottom half of the box and notices that she's in an underground cave. As she makes her way through the cave, she comes across a flesh-eating demon and turns right back around the way she came. But the demon follows her back into the box.

Just as the demon is about to latch onto her neck, it smells something on her body and starts aggressively sniffing until it finds where the smell is coming from. What does it smell, you ask? It smells the cult leader's blood on her fingers from when she scratched her. After smelling the blood, the demon backs off. That's weird!

Azrael returns to the surface and treks back to the cult's camp. This is when she really gets her revenge. She sets one of the camp's tents on fire, which then spreads to the other tents. Then, she starts sniping the cult members. They try to fight back, but Azrael gets the upper hand every time. After clearing the camp out, Azrael heads into the main house where the cult leader is.

They engage in another fight that ends with Azrael biting hard into the cult leader's neck. As the cult leader bleeds out from her neck, her water breaks, and she makes her way to a cot in the room. Suddenly, one of the cult members appears in the house with a shotgun and starts shooting at Azrael. They start fighting, and Azrael ends up killing the cult member by slicing her in her neck with a butcher's knife.

A baby's cries are now heard. The cult leader has had the baby, but she appears to be scared of it. She walks away from the baby and then fatally slits her throat with a knife. Azrael watches this all play out and then makes her way over to the baby and picks it up.

A bunch of demons enter the house as she holds the baby, but they don't attack. Instead, they scream out loud. The camera then pans to the baby, who is not a human baby but what looks to be a demon baby. In fact, it looks like the devil but just as a baby. It's unclear if the baby is the devil, but it's obviously some type of demon. That's why the other demons didn't attack, and Azrael quickly realizes this herself. In the last shot before the movie cuts to the credits, we see Azrael look up from the demon baby and stare straight ahead before smirking.
