We have good news to share, horror fans. There's another new horror movie you should be on the lookout for this August, and it's the film Strange Darling, starring Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner. This movie joins other theatrical horror flicks slated to be released in August, such as Cuckoo starring Hunter Schafer and M. Night Shyamalan's Trap.

Strange Darling is a horror-thriller written and helmed by indie American genre filmmaker JT Mollner. This is his second feature. He's best known for writing the script for and directing the Western film Outlaws and Angels, which stars Chad Michael Murray, Francesca Eastwood, Teri Polo, Frances Fisher, Luke Wilson, Madisen Beaty, and Ben Browder. Joining Mollner in the crew is Giovanni Ribisi, who not only produced the horror-thriller flick but also served as Director of Photography. Other producers of the film include Bill Block, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, and Chris Ivan Cevic.

Considered a Miramax and Spooky Pictures Production, Strange Darling had its premiere at Fantastic Fest in September 2023. Based on early reviews, critics seem to enjoy the film. As of June 14, it holds a perfect 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Here's what one critic had to say about the film via Rotten Tomatoes:

"Strange Darling is an exhilarating, twisted thriller that has the look and feel of a 1970's exploitation film, but with an updated social commentary to deliver something new."

Bob Yari’s Magenta Light Studios will be distributing the movie and will release it in U.S. theaters on Aug. 23, 2024. The company also dropped the official trailer on its YouTube page. You can check out the gripping trailer below.

Those who have already seen Strange Darling recommend that those who have not go in blindly, meaning not expose themselves to any details about the film prior to seeing it. According to these people, this makes the viewing experience even better. But really it's up to you on what you decide to do.

Strange Darling is described as a cat-and-mouse thriller about a one-night stand gone terribly wrong. Fitzgerald (The Fall of the House of Usher, Reacher) stars in one of the leading roles as the Lady, while Gallner (Smile, Scream 6) stars in the other leading role as the Demon. Based on the trailer, it appears that Fitzgerald's character is just an ordinary woman who wounds up in a terrible situation after she has a spontaneous hookup with a serial killer played by Gallner. However, we're expecting there to be shocking twists and turns throughout.

Joining Fitzgerald and Gallner in the cast are Ribisi as Art Pallone, Barbara Hershey, Ed Begley Jr, Madisen Beaty, Bianca Santos, and Steven Michael Quezada.

One of the Kings of Horror, American filmmaker Mike Flanagan, has even spoken out and praised the film, saying that it is "sublimely brilliant." I don't know about you, but this just made me want to see this movie even more!

Strange Darling is set to be released in theaters on Aug. 23, 2024. Will you be watching the horror-thriller?
