9 horror movies we're excited to see in theaters in July 2024
July has gotten off to a great start with the release of MaXXXine in theaters, and there are still so many more new theatrically released horror movies to look forward to throughout the rest of the month. Below, we shared a list of nine must-see horror flicks that are showing in theaters this July.
Note: Some of the titles listed below aren't exactly of the horror genre but have horror elements to them or are horror-adjacent. That's why we included them on the list.
MaXXXine
Serving as a direct sequel to X, MaXXXine takes place six years after the events that happened in the first film. Adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx has left Texas behind and all the trauma she went through there to live in Los Angeles, California. She still hopes to make it big one day, but her dream of becoming a star is threatened when she becomes the target of a mysterious killer. MaXXXine is now in theaters.
Longlegs
Release date: July 12, 2024
Longlegs takes place in 1990 and centers around new FBI agent Lee Harker as she works to solve a case involving a Satanic serial killer known as Longlegs. Harker must put an end to Longlegs killing spree, but the case becomes more complicated when occult evidence is uncovered and Harker discovers a personal connection to the killer.
Lumina
Release date: Open in select theaters on July 12, 2024
Lumina is a sci-fi thriller following a group of friends who embark on a quest to find one of their own when said friend suddenly disappears in a mysterious flash of light. Their desperate search leads them to an underground military base, where they encounter an alien menace that threatens their lives.
The Beast Within
Release date: Opening theatrically nationwide on July 26, 2024
The Beast Within follows a 10-year-old girl named Willow, who begins to question her unusual life in her family's fortified compound deep in the forest after a series of strange events. One night, she secretly follows her parents on one of their late-night treks in the forest and witnesses her father undergo a horrifying wolf transformation. Now, she knows the dark ancestral secret that her family has been trying so hard to keep hidden.
Oddity
Release date: July 19, 2024
Oddity is a paranormal horror film about a blind medium and curio shopkeeper who uses a wooden mannequin, her most dangerous item from her cursed collection, to help uncover the truth behind her sister's murder.
The Last Breath
Release date: Open in select theaters on July 26, 2024
Shark attack! Shark attack! The Last Breath follows a group of old college friends who decide to go on a Caribbean scuba diving trip exploring the wreckage of a WWII battleship, only to soon find themselves trapped in a labyrinth of rusted metal, surrounded by bloodthirsty great white sharks.

Twisters
Release date: July 19, 2024
