New poster for Rosemary's Baby prequel Apartment 7A: 'Rosemary was not the first'
By Mads Lennon
One of the most iconic horror films of all time, Rosemary's Baby, is getting a prequel this fall titled Apartment 7A. Paramount+ debuted an eerie new poster today in honor of the film cementing its world premiere at this year's Fantastic Fest.
Streaming exclusively on Paramount+ starting on September 27 after its Fantastic Fest debut on Friday, September 20, Apartment 7A was helmed by Relic director Natalie Erika James and stars Golden Globe-winning actress Julia Garner as Terry Gionoffrio, one of the first victims of Roman and Minnie Castevet.
As fans of the 1968 film know, Rosemary Woodhouse (Mia Farrow) would eventually become the Castevet's victim, forced to give birth to the alleged Antichrist. But before that, she meets a young woman named Terry shortly after Rosemary and her husband move into the Bramford. Sadly, Terry later dies, supposedly from suicide. Apartment 7A tells us Terry's side of the story.
Fittingly, the new poster touts the same style as the original Rosemary's Baby poster, complete with the ghostly green hue. The Bramford is shown along with a dark silhouette of a woman in a ballerina pose. Terry is a young dancer who stays with the Castevets while recovering from a serious injury.
The poster works on multiple levels, as the upside-down vantage of the Bramford makes it look like the woman might have just leapt from a window, which is supposedly how Terry dies, though it's heavily implied Minnie pushed her.
On another level, the figure in the poster is in a ballerina pose, befitting Terry's status as a dancer. It also features a similar silhouette of a black cliff, like in the original Rosemary's Baby poster.
The film's official synopsis:
"An ambitious young dancer Terry Gionoffrio (Julia Garner, Ozark) dreams of fame and fortune in New York City, but after suffering a devastating injury, an older, wealthy couple (Dianne Wiest, I Care a Lot, and Kevin McNally, Pirates of the Caribbean film series) welcomes her into their home in the luxury apartment building the Bramford. When fellow resident and influential Broadway producer (Jim Sturgess, Across the Universe) offers her another chance at fame, it seems that all her dreams are finally coming true. However, after an evening she can’t fully remember, disturbing circumstances soon have her second-guessing the sacrifices she’s willing to make for her career as she realizes that something evil is living not only in Apartment 7A, but in the Bramford itself. "
In addition to streaming on Paramount+ beginning on September 27, the poster advertises Apartment 7A as available to own digitally as well, meaning you should be able to purchase it through digital retailers on the same day it premieres on the streaming service.
