Teacup teases a mysterious threat trapping survivors on a farm in new trailer
By Mads Lennon
Fresh off the show's world premiere screening at Fantastic Fest, 1428 Elm has a brand new trailer to share for the upcoming Peacock horror series Teacup, premiering this October.
Inspired by the New York Times bestselling novel Stinger by Robert McCammon, Stinger follows a disparate group of survivors forced together by a mysterious threat that keeps them sequestered on a secluded farm. The series comes from James Wan's Atomic Monster company and UCP, with Yellowstone's Ian McCulloch serving as showrunner.
The trailer starts pleasantly enough, with a mother and son enjoying life on a farm in rural Georgia as Harry Nilsson's "Think About Your Troubles" plays in the background. But it soon becomes apparent that something is about to go horribly wrong.
We get a hint as to why the show is titled "Teacup," with a clip showing Yvonne Strahovski's character, Maggie, trying to calm her son's fears regarding an incoming storm. Maggie holds a teacup to the window and repeats the idiom, "tempest in a teacup," which, in this context, is her telling her kid that the storm is likely smaller and more inconsequential than it appears. But as the rest of the trailer teases...Maggie could not be more wrong.
That "storm" is likely the arrival of whatever threat is about to rain down on these people. In McCammon's book, the threat is extraterrestrial in origin. The teacup metaphor can go further, too, since by the end of the trailer, it's shown that the people on this farm are being held captive on the land.
A creepy man wearing a gas mask draws a line in the dirt surrounding the area. Anyone who falls over the line seems to meet a horrific demise. So, in short, the whole farm becomes the "tempest in a teacup." We don't know if anyone outside of the area at the center of the show is experiencing the horrors these people will face.
In addition to Strahovski, Teacup also stars Scott Speedman, Kathy Baker, Caleb Dolden, Émilie Bierre, Boris McGiver, Chaske Spencer, and Luciano Leroux.
After the first two episodes premiere on Thursday, October 10, two episodes will drop weekly until the Halloween finale. If you haven't signed up for Peacock yet, make sure to head over to their plan page to get situated before Teacup premieres! Plans start as low as $7.99/month.
