On Jan. 1, 2025, a Korean magazine, OSEN, reported that a well-known American actor would be appearing in Squid Game season 3. The news outlet also shared that this actor had filmed his scenes in secrecy and that his role in the third season would be minor. All character details were said to be kept secret in order to avoid spoilers, and his appearance in the series would be brief. Who was the actor, you ask? It was none other than Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
After this information hit the internet, fans immediately started speculating who DiCaprio could be playing in the survival thriller series. Many believed that he would be playing a VIP in the third season. If you recall from the Netflix show, the VIPs are a group of rich and influential men who secretly watch and bet on the deadly games.
However, Netflix didn't take long to shut down this rumor. In a recent statement to the news outlet Soompi, the streaming giant stated that DiCaprio's rumored casting was "completely false" and "entirely unfounded." While it's unknown how this rumor came to be, we do know that DiCaprio is a fan of the thriller series.
Back in 2022, at a Netflix-hosted press meet, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that DiCaprio was a big fan of the show. He also shared that he'd be open to casting him for the third season if the opportunity arose. Well, I guess things didn't work out because DiCaprio will not be making an appearance in Squid Game season 3.
