Sarah Michelle Gellar has been in the news quite a bit lately for her new projects like the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot in development and promoting her upcoming Lifetime movie Pretty Hurts (which actually reunites her with Buffy star Alyson Hannigan!). But while discussing her latest film, the actress revealed the one franchise she'd love to return to and hasn't had the chance to yet: Scream.

Chatting with Entertainment Tonight, the actress revealed that she kept waiting for the producers of Scream 7 to give her a call and bring her back.

"I tried to get in Scream, nobody wanted me."

The interview points out that her character, Cici Cooper, was killed by Ghostface in Scream 2. But, to be fair, Gellar reminds him that they're bringing back several actors whose characters died in previous films, like Matthew Lillard, David Arquette, and Scott Foley.

It's funny that Gellar mentions bringing back formerly dead characters as Jenn Kaytin Robinson, the director of the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel, tried to get Gellar to reprise her role as Helen Shivers for the new movie. But Gellar remained adamant that her character was fully dead. Helen's body was shown frozen on ice, though, so it would be harder to explain that away vs. whatever Scream 7 is planning for its formerly deceased.

Helen might not be returning for I Know What You Did Last Summer but her real-life husband Freddie Prinze Jr. is back as Ray Bronson. A photo of Helen is also shown in the trailer, suggesting that the movie will still pay tribute to her character.

It would have been fun to see Gellar return to the Scream franchise, even in a new role. It's unlikely the seventh movie will be the last, so perhaps she'll get her wish in a future entry.

Fans of the actress have plenty to look forward to for now, as she will return as the titular vampire slayer in the upcoming Buffy reboot, which just cast American Horror Story alum Ryan Kiera Armstrong in a new role. The actress was also recently cast in the Ready or Not sequel Ready or Not: Here I Come alongside Kathryn Newton, David Cronenberg, Elijah Wood, Kevin Durand, and Shawn Hatosy. Samara Weaving will return to reprise her role as Grace.

Also on the television side of things, Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin was renewed for a second season, with Gellar's character Tanya Martin expected to return for season 2.

Needless to say, fans of the actress have plenty to look forward to even without Scream!
