We have great news to share for fans of the hit French shark movie Under Paris. An Under Paris 2 is reportedly in development at Netflix, which means we're in for another crazy underwater adventure!

The first film was a smash hit when it landed on Netflix back in June 2024, eventually earning the title of the second most popular non-English movie on Netflix, right behind the epic monster film Troll. That's why it's not completely surprising that a sequel is in the works.

Also, the star of Under Paris, Bérénice Bejo, spilled in a recent interview with LA Tribune that production on a sequel will start in September 2025. However, there wasn't any confirmation at the time that an Under Paris 2 was actually in the works. Now, it seems that we have that confirmation.

According to Variety, French filmmaker Xavier Gens, who was behind the first movie, is currently working on the sequel. Also, Bejo will reportedly reprise her role as Sophia, and Nassim Lyes will return in his role as Adil. While Bejo claimed they'll start shooting the sequel in September 2025, Variety reports that they've learned from sources close to production that the film is still in the early stages and that filming could commence as late as 2026.

While plot details are being kept under wraps at the moment, Gens previously stated in an interview with Variety that if there were to be an Under Paris 2, it would take place in a Paris that is "entirely submerged underwater." Bejo also stated in her interview with LA Tribune that the sequel will be "very different" but will still center around a shark. Once the official synopsis is revealed, we'll make sure to share it with you right away.

Under Paris follows grieving marine researcher Sophia Assalas, who finds herself having to confront her dark past to save Paris from the same bloodthirsty shark that massacred her entire crew three years prior. Joining Bejo and Lyes in the cast were Léa Léviant, Marvin Dubart, Nagisa Morimoto, Anne Marivin, and many others.

We'll keep you constantly updated on what's going on with Under Paris 2. So, stay tuned to 1428 Elm for more news and coverage on the sequel.
