Until Dawn
Release date: April 25, 2025
In January 2024, it was announced that Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions would be turning the PlayStation horror video game Until Dawn into a movie. With Until Dawn being such a popular game, many people were excited to see how the intense, choice-driven narrative would be reimagined for the big screen.
Filmmakers David F. Sandberg and Gary Dauberman, who worked together on Annabelle: Creation, had signed on to this new horror project. Sandberg took on the role of director, while Dauberman helped write the screenplay with The Invitation's Blair Butler. Initially thought to follow the same storyline as the video game, it was later disclosed that the horror video game adaptation would feature a completely different narrative.
Ella Rubin (Fear Street: Prom Queen) stars as Clover, a young woman who is desperate to find out the truth about her older sister's disappearance a year earlier. This leads her to visit the place where she went missing, along with her friends. But this is when things take a dark turn. Clover and her friends are each killed by a masked killer and then wake up to discover that they're in some sinister time loop, forcing them to relive the same night repeatedly. Their only chance to escape is to survive until the sun comes up.
Michael Cimino, Odessa A'zion, Ji-young Yoo, and Belmont Cameli portray Clover's friends who accompany her on her journey, while Maia Mitchell plays Clover's sister who went missing. Peter Stormare, who fans of the video game will recognize from voicing the character Dr. Hill, joins the cast in a new role.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2
Release date: Dec. 5, 2025
While Until Dawn is making its debut in film this year, Five Nights at Freddy's is continuing its story with a follow-up. Based on the video game series of the same name, Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is currently in production, with the cast and crew returning to Louisiana to film. There have reportedly been photos taken by fans on the set of the sequel. Two of the images are of what looks to be the iconic Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. The other photos are of Five Nights at Freddy's merchandise being sold, potentially for a scene in the film.
However, it's important to mention that these images are not official. So, it's best that we wait for official confirmation before drawing any conclusions. What we do know so far about this supernatural horror film is that Emma Tammi returns to helm it. She directed the first movie. Scott Cawthon, who is behind the Five Night at Freddy's video games, also came back to help co-write the screenplay.
Regarding who from the first film's cast is returning, Josh Hutcherson, Matthew Lillard, and Elizabeth Lail are all confirmed to come back. Although details about the sequel's plot are still being kept under wraps, it's widely believed that the sequel will follow the storyline of the second game in the Five Nights at Freddy's game franchise. This assumption is based on the introduction of a new character in the film.
Back in October 2024, the first official poster for Five Nights at Freddy's 2 was revealed. Guess who was featured on it? Toy Freddy! This character is introduced in the second game, and he serves as a major antagonist. Since he's going to be in Five Nights at Freddy's 2, it seems that the sequel will indeed follow the storyline of the second video game.
This is all we know so far about these two upcoming horror video game adaptations. As more details are revealed, we'll come back and share everything we learned. So, make sure to stay tuned to 1428 Elm!
