How are we feeling Yellowjackets fans, now that the season 3 finale has dropped? Is your jaw still on the floor? Because that ending was absolutely wild! Not only did we get the shocking reveal of who killed Lottie, but we finally learned the identity of Pit Girl—a mystery that's been haunting fans since day one. This finale gave us everything, and we're still trying to process what the heck just happened. One thing's for sure. We definitely need another season of this addictive thriller series!
So, where are we at when it comes to a renewal? Well, Showtime has yet to confirm a fourth season. This might raise some concerns, especially considering the show was renewed for season 3 before the second season had even premiered. However, just because the show didn't receive an early renewal again doesn't necessarily mean it's in trouble or at risk of being canceled. Early renewals don't always happen, and Showtime may simply be taking a more measured approach this time around.
Things are looking good so far with positive fan reactions and critical praise for the third season. In fact, the season 3 premiere garnered a little over 2 million viewers across Showtime and Paramount+ during its opening weekend. According to Paramount Global, this episode is the most-streamed in the series' history, surpassing the season 2 premiere by 58%.
While the viewership numbers for subsequent episodes of the third season remain unknown, it's likely that the show either saw an increase in viewership or maintained steady numbers. Given how the intensity only escalated with each episode, it's hard to imagine viewers dropping off and not wanting to see how everything continues to unfold in the show. The third season may have experienced somewhat of a drop in viewership, but it was probably minimal.
It might be a while before we hear back about the show's fate. Maybe we'll find out something after the season 3 finale airs on Showtime on April 13. But we're not feeling too worried just yet, and neither should you. The good news is that there's definitely more story to tell as the season 3 finale ends on a shocking cliffhanger that easily sets up a potential fourth season.
Spoilers from the Yellowjackets season 3 finale are ahead!

After making the difficult choice to kill Coach Ben and losing her leadership role as a result, Natalie was completely disengaged. She had hit her breaking point and was more determined than ever to find a way home. When she learns that Misty has the plane's transponder and that she and Van are working to repair the satellite phone to contact the outside world, Natalie decides to team up with them.
While Misty and Van participate in the hunt to get Mari, Natalie retrieves the satellite phone in the woods while also carrying the transponder. During her travels, she encounters Hannah, whom she lets in on her, Misty, and Van's plan. Basically, Natalie switches clothes with Hannah so that Shauna and the others believe she's participating in the hunt when really she's somewhere else trying to get the satellite phone to work. In the final scene of the season 3 finale, Natalie climbs a snowy mountain and fiddles with the phone until she finally gets a signal. She dials a number, and though the phone seems to be malfunctioning at first, a man's voice eventually comes through on the line. The episode then comes to a close.
Now that the Yellowjackets have finally made contact with the outside world, it seems like they're one step closer to rescue. It was established earlier in the series that the survivors spent two winters in the Canadian wilderness before being saved. In the season 3 finale, they are in the midst of their second winter, so it looks like their rescue could be just around the corner.
A potential Yellowjackets season 4 will most likely pick up right where the season 3 finale left off. But it'll be interesting to see how the other girls react when they learn that Natalie managed to get the satellite phone working and make contact with the outside world. Will they see her as a hero, or will old tensions and unresolved grudges complicate the situation? Who knows. Maybe Natalie will keep it to herself for a while. Or perhaps the phone call doesn't go as smoothly as expected.
Another storyline that will likely be explored more if there is to be a fourth season is Taissa and Misty's new alliance. Both are now at odds with Shauna and seem determined to bring her down. But what’s their next move? Meanwhile, Shauna is left isolated after her daughter and husband leave her. At the end of the season 3 finale, it seems that Shauna is about to revert to her old ways. That can't be good. Clearly, there's much more of Yellowjackets to unravel. We just need that season 4 renewal.
Series co-creator Ashley Lyle even previously stated in a March 2023 interview with Entertainment Weekly that the original plan was for the show to go on for five seasons. So, while a season 4 renewal hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, it seems like the series still has a clear vision for its future. That's good to know.
