Project Blue Book is back for Season 2 on the History Channel. We discuss the 3 important takeaways from the trailer for fans of the series.

Project Blue Book is returning for Season 2 on the History Channel in January. What we know so far is that Dr. Allen J. Hynek and Captain Michael Quinn are going to be doing a deep dive investigation into one of America’s most famous UFO experiences, Roswell.

In a discussion with Entertainment Weekly this past spring, showrunner Sean Jablonski hinted that Roswell would be one of the case files that would be explored in Season 2 along with the Maury Island Incident. For those unfamiliar with that particular UAP (unidentified aerial phenomenon) event, in 1947, in Puget Sound in Washington, two harbor patrolmen were surrounded by 6 UFOs. One of the craft apparently ejected a mysterious white metal substance that ended up killing a dog and broke a man’s arm.

We also know that two new cast members have been added to the show. Keir O’Donnell will be playing Even William Blake who is an offbeat UFO researcher that befriends Mimi Hynek. Jerod Haynes has also joined the series as Daniel Banks. He is a CIA operative who becomes a powerful asset for Hynek and Quinn to leverage in their quest for truth.

Apparently, Generals Harding and Valentine find themselves on the outside looking in as the CIA takes a more active interest in Project Blue Book according to Jablonski. Of course, there is also a change in the administration when President Eisenhower takes office.

Now, we know the direction the series is headed in for this season. Let’s look at the 3 important takeaways from the brand-new trailer which the History Channel and Deadline dropped yesterday.

Planned UFO Invasion?

In the trailer, we see Harding is going into full spin doctor mode appearing on television to let the American public know that Roswell was just a hoax. However, as we all know, behind the scenes is something different.

Even Quinn and Hynek remark that he won’t be able to cover it up with them around. They are just as determined to get to the bottom of the incident as Harding is to cover it up. The plot thickens so to speak when Harding looks at a confidential case file.

Inside the folder is a document entitled, “The Pentacle Memorandum: A Planned U.F.O. Invasion.” Could this be an operation set up to deliberately fool the public into thinking that extraterrestrials are visiting Earth? What could be gained by this ruse?

More from Aliens

Perhaps, since Groom Lake or Area 51 is also going to be a prevalent location this season, the government is trying to divert attention from new weapons and aircraft that they are developing and testing. We know in Season 1, Wernher von Braun reverse engineered an alien craft. Could we be experimenting with ET technology?

Who Is Executed?

Harding exclaims that the first thing that needs to be done is to control the narrative around UFOs. That is how conspiracy theories work. What we end up seeing while he is doing the voiceover is someone in a cell getting waterboarded.

Then this individual is walked out into the middle of the woods. We can see a revolver in someone’s hand. Who is going to be executed and why? What do they know? Could this be the fate of Keir O’Donnell’s UFO researcher?

Does he stumble onto some critical piece of evidence that our government is aware that ETs are visiting us? Or does he find out about the experimental aircraft that are in the hangar in Area 51?

They’re Real

At the end of the trailer, Hynek and Quinn are watching film of something. Hynek’s expression is one of disbelief while Quinn is smiling sardonically and exclaiming, “They’re real.”

Now, without seeing the footage we can safely conjecture that perhaps he is talking about aliens. Have they acquired film from the aftermath of Roswell? There was some talk that certain base personnel in New Mexico witnessed ETs being brought in from the crash.

Will Hynek and Quinn finally get to interact with an extraterrestrial biological entity? We will soon find out when Project Blue Book returns on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 10 p.m.
