Unlock your senses: A24 and Joya Studio to host immersive screenings of Heretic

One of the most highly anticipated horror movies of fall 2024 would have to be Heretic. It had its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival back in September, and on Nov. 8, 2024, it will finally hit theaters everywhere in the United States. But wait! You could possibly see this new horror flick a little earlier, depending on what movie theater you go to. And that's not all!

A24, the production company behind the film and distributor, has teamed up with fragrance and design company Joya Studio to bring multi-sensory experience screenings of Heretic to specific theaters in the U.S. According to a press release, these immersive screenings will show exclusively at Alamo Drafthouse theaters across the U.S. for one-night-only on Oct. 30. Yes, just one night only.

This unique cinematic experience promises to engage not just your eyes but your sense of smell. If you watched the first trailer of the film that was released, there's a clip showing the antagonist mentioning that he's got to go check on a blueberry pie he's put in the oven. But this turns out not to be true, and he just used it as a way to trick his victims. His victims eventually discover that he lit a candle with a blueberry pie scent so that they'd believe he's actually baking a pie.

According to the press release, the immersive screenings will allow moviegoers to smell a blueberry pie scent in the theater during that moment in the film. How cool! In addition, moviegoers can also look out for treats and scratch-and-sniff cards at these screenings.

Heretic was written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. It stars Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East as Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton, two young missionaries who find themselves entangled in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse after knocking on the door of a strange man. Hugh Grant stars as the strange man, Mr. Reed. Topher Grace and Elle Young are also in the cast.
