Filming for the highly anticipated I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot has officially begun, and everyone's buzzing with excitement. The project, which revives the beloved horror franchise and offers a new take, is set to be released in theaters on July 18, 2025, by Sony Pictures. We learned of production starting via the official X account for the movie. Along with announcing that the cameras have started rolling, the X post also reminds us that the film will be released in the summer of 2025.
The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot is being described as a legacy sequel to the first two films, I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998). Also included in the horror franchise is the standalone sequel I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006) and the short-lived television series adaptation I Know What You Did Last Summer (2021).
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who is best known for being behind the Netflix movies Someone Great and Do Revenge, will direct the reboot from a screenplay she wrote with Sam Lansky. Unfortunately, any information about the plot is still being kept secret. However, we do know who's included in the cast lineup. You can expect to see familiar faces in the film, such as Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, Chase Sui Wonders, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nicholas, Gabbriette, and Billy Campbell.
Freddie Prinze Jr. is also confirmed to reprise his role as Ray Bronson from the first two films in the reboot. Although not confirmed, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy Norwood are in discussions to reprise their roles as Julie James and Karla Wilson in the reboot as well. Talented actress Camila Mendes was initially included in the cast lineup but had to exit because of scheduling issues.
