It's been a crazy week for Netflix news, as the streamer's Geeked Week celebration dropped trailers and announcements galore. From a first behind-the-scenes look at Wednesday season 2 to a terrifying trailer for the horror movie Don't Move and fresh new clip for the horror-comedy film It's What's Inside, there's been plenty to get excited about. That includes the brand new teaser for Devil May Cry. And I can't lie, this is the Geeked Week news that pushed my excitement over the limit.

Based on the long-running Capcom video game series, Devil May Cry is an animated show from Adi Shankar, the creator of Netflix's Castlevania series. It follows a young devil hunter named Dante, who's fond of sporting a red trench coat, oversized sword, and twin handguns named Ebony and Ivory. He's also half human and half devil himself, and has strange powers which make him more than a match for the denizens of hell. When Dante comes knocking, the creatures of darkness either run for their lives, or end up diced to bits.

If that all sounds kind of ridiculous, it's supposed to; the Devil May Cry games are all about slicing up devils with outrageous style as Dante fights to save humanity from various otherworldly threats. And from the looks of this first trailer, the Netflix series seems to have captured those vibes perfectly:

In addition to Shankar's involvement, another thing that makes this new Devil May Cry show so exciting is that it's being produced by Studio Mir. That's the same studio behind Netflix's animated Witcher spinoff movies The Nightmare of the Wolf and The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. Netflix has really been killing it with their animated properties based on video game franchises, so with creatives like Shankar and Studio Mir, I'm hopeful that Devil May Cry is going to get the treatment it deserves.

Netflix's Devil May Cry series has been in development since 2018, and according to Shankar, he and his producing partner Alex Larsen have been hard at work on the series "every day" since then. “Rest assured, we are working very hard because we love the franchise and because we want to deliver something great,” Shankar told Tudum. “Our goal wasn’t just to pump out another animated show. My goal is to make one of the best shows on the Netflix platform — period.”

Who plays Dante in the new Devil May Cry show?

There were a few other details revealed along with the trailer, including the identity of Dante's voice actor, Johnny Yong Bosch. Bosch is most famous for appearing in Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, but he's racked up hundreds of voice acting credits in the years since, including high profile anime projects like Akira, Bleach, Dragon Ball, and Trigun Stampede. There's no doubt that Dante's in good hands.

We also got a release window! Devil May Cry will be launching on Netflix sometime in April 2025. So mark your calendars, order a pizza, and prepare for some wild devil slaying action. As Shankar says, it's time to "get hyped."
