The cameras are currently rolling in Miami on the Dexter prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, and recently, there have been many announcements revealing who's in the cast. In fact, we've just learned that the amazingly talented actress Sarah Michelle Gellar has joined the series. More on her casting below.
Dexter: Original Sin is a 10-episode drama series taking place 15 years before the events of the original show. Set in Miami in 1991, we follow a young Dexter Morgan who has just graduated from college and is set to begin his forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. But as his urge to kill reaches an all-time high, he ends up turning to his adoptive father Harry, who teaches him a code that’s designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to die. He must make sure to adhere to the main rule of the code which is to not get caught. But this won't be easy with him working for the Miami Metro Police Department.
Dexter: New Blood creator Clyde Phillips is behind the prequel as showrunner and executive producer. Shadow and Bone's Patrick Gibson stars as a young Dexter Morgan, while Christian Slater plays Harry Morgan, Dexter's adoptive father and mentor.
Gibson and Slater are joined in the cast by Molly Brown (Debra Morgan), James Martinez (Angel Batista), Christina Milian (Maria LeGuerta), Alex Shimizu (Vince Masuka), and Reno Wilson (Bobby Watts). Thanksgiving star Patrick Dempsey is also in the cast as a series regular. He will be portraying the role of Captain Aaron Spencer of the Miami Metro Homicide.
Now, we have Sarah Michelle Gellar, who has been announced to be playing Tanya Martin, the CSI Chief at the Miami Metro Police Department and Dexter's new boss. Her role in the series is described as a special guest starring role. It'll be interesting to see how her character's dynamic will be with Dexter.
Gellar is best known for starring as Buffy Summers in the supernatural drama series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She also had roles in the movies I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream 2, Cruel Intentions, Scooby-Doo, The Grudge and Netflix's Do Revenge. Her most recent role was playing Kristin Ramsey in the supernatural teen drama Wolf Pack.
